Map organization would be fantastic. I'm still hopeful that someday we can create an entire campaign world on a single "map" (like Viewingdale). But in the meantime, it would be great to be able to store MT maps as individual maps and be able to organize them into folders and just grab the ones we need for adentures, instead of having to duplicate campaigns and delete maps and such. If I could, I would just have a directory, like the Image Explorer window that I could pop out and just go into whatever folder I needed, double click the map (or drag and drop) and go. You could organize an entire realm that way. I have already done that with DM Genie. In DM Genie, I have created more than 30 cities/towns/villages, and saved them as individual "adventures". That way, the next time a party visits say, Arabel, I just import the adventure "Arabel" and I have all of my maps, notes, NPC's, rumors, etc. in a blink. I would love to be able to do the same with maps! :D

I worry that I might be tempted to leave work early if a dev release of 1.3 happens while I'm at there.

Is MapToolitis an acceptable reason to go home? I wonder...

Shouldn't the "official" release of MapTools be version 1.2 by now? I still see it shown as version 1.1.

Yes. We are working on figuring out updating the documentation before we go and announce it to the world, but before I make a new dev release I'll move the RC to release.
