MapTool 1.3 Development Build 19

Post by trevor »

The "Light is light, and Vision is vision" release:

Build 19 (11/09/07)
* Reduce the number of points created by the oval topology tool
* Make background stamps snap to grid in the top left
* Add coordinate overlay toggle
* Optimized vision calculations
* Add Save menu item to stamp popup menu
* Organize the stamp and token popup menus
* Fix bug: stamps are sometimes invisible to players when they shouldn't be
* Fix bug: temporary save files are not being cleaned up
* Fix bug: non snap to grid movement measurements are incorrect

Jay
* Fix bug: map jumps when right click-move on the templates
* Fix bug: light templates not scaling correctly

Contributed by RPTroll
* Lookup tables handle rolls off the table range (too low uses the lowest table entry, too high uses the highest table entry)

Contributed by Toni, and Patricio
* Updated spanish translation

NOTES:
- Vision and light interaction is new, please test it and submit bugs directly to this thread
- D20 light takes the shadowy distance into the calculations, but doesn't show the shadow
- Expose Last Path is currently broken

Let there be light! Lots of questions, but I'm eager to see where we're headed hehe...

How does individual vision play in with this at all? I can't seem to get it to affect anything - for me all objects that have light are always visible to all players even with individual vision on.

Is there a max range for seeing light in the distance?

I know I mentioned having a gradient edge to light, but are there any plans or thoughts about having light levels with a semi-transparent black overlay to simulate the lower levels of light?

Is conic light planned?

---

I noticed a bug. Create an object, attach light, delete the object. The revealed area remains revealed until a token with light is moved. Prolly need to attach a light check when deleting objects?

I noticed that the initial load up was CRAZY long. I even killed the process and tried again. Not sure if it was cleaning my temp folder or what. After it finally loaded (several minutes) I closed and reopened. Seemed a little longer than I remember but not as bad as the first shot.

I can't wait to setup a cool temple room and have the torches light up with a simple click...

Getting some oddities with the light.

Each torch on the wall was set as a torch light source.
The token isn't able to see areas that should be visible.

Looks like whatever algorithm is optimizing the vision calculations is making bad assumptions.

Update Edit: When the token is given a light source of his own and is in range of the glitchy areas they disappear, but reappear when his light is out of range.

Other bugs noticed:

Non-square stamps aren't aligning properly to the grid when dropped on the object layer. All of them seem to work on the background layer.

Tokens are now being squished to be square and to fit their cell footprint. They should maintain their original aspect ratio.

Good catches vry, I'll get those patched up right quick.

The image you posted is a big black space, was that intentional ? Could you email your campaign file ?

Campaign sent.

Not sure why the images aren't showing up for you.
The first one shows the token's vision outline with some odd areas cut out of it. The second one shows the LBL so you can see what it should look like.

Curious. I'm not having a problem with that.

Are those torches stamps where part of them is underneath the topology?

That could be part of it. I moved some torches in another room into the center and most of the glitchy areas were fixed, but not all of them.

This also happens on hex grids.

I'm guessing this is so that we can save torches and whatnot with light attached?

"Circle" and "Square" tokens are now rotating along with their arrow when you rotate them.

Trevor, can you please set the default layer for drawing to object or background? I never ever ever remember to change it until I'm a few mins into drawing. :(

And since stamps wind up on the object or background layer, and the token layer (current drawing default) is over those two layers, well... :roll:

Edit: Bugs: You mentioned Reveal Last Path is broken, but does that include AutoShow Fog? I have it turned on, and when I move a token with light (vision?) nothing happens. Also, something feels weird with moving tokens...it doesn't go where I want it to go based on where I should have to move my pointer to, if you know what I mean.
