Maptools really changed my in person gaming group experience
So I have been using maptools for my in person gaming group for about 1.5 years. We would lay a 27" screen all in one touch screen computer flat on the kitchen table. I would wirelessly connect my laptop to it as the GM and we would play. However recently the person who hosts the games bought a new house and in this place, his wife let him have the finished basement as a gaming room. So I built a gaming table for the room, we retired the 27" screen. We are currently playing a pathfinder game. I am using a custom built framework that only handles me (the GM) making attack rolls for the NPCS and keeping track of hitpoints. For the rest of things we still use dice. While we don't use paper character sheets anymore, everyone is using Hero Lab on their laptops to keep track of their characters. Gaming has come a long way from hand writing out character sheets on lined notebook paper Here is a look at the table.
There is a link in my sig to a mostly complete build of the table.

Very cool set up. I'm running a table top game where I bring a 43" tv and put it at one end of the table, seat 3 players on each side and me at the other end. I control all the token movement with their direction and run two instances from the same computer so I have easy access to either screen. This was only made possible with how cheap and light lcd/led screens have become. Takes me about 10 minutes for set up and breakdown of my computer and stuff.

Quite a labor of love there!Varkin wrote:There is a link in my sig to a mostly complete build of the table.
Very slick!
I am a little concerned that the GM/Table Builder doesn't appear to have the most comfortable chair in the room though.

Is the large built in display a touch display or how do you manage movement (or are folks using physical miniatures)?
I have used a wireless mouse the players pass around to move tokens.
EDIT: Nevermind I checked out your post on BGG and it answered all of my questions!

Nice setup by the way!
The GM getting the long side of the table seems problematic, we have far too many players for a GM to take that much space!
Alternate way to see the silly images... https://goo.gl/photos/Zrf1NsGbnqzGGqgq5
