Diablo Revisited

Post by dorpond »

I have a long history playing the Diablo games and grew very fond of them. I always told myself that I would make a D&D campaign based off them. So, with the invent of 4th edition, I figured I would go ahead and do it.

http://diablorevisited.blogspot.com/200 ... ction.html

The game is already in progress by 6 sessions or so and I am just now starting to document it all at the above website. I think I will purposely keep the blog a few sessions behind since I will weave 'cut scenes' in that will bring the story to life. For example, the party captured one remaining kobold and that kobold told the the party about their leader who is a dragon. The kobold continued to tell the party that a man by the name of Lazarus visited this dragon in search of an artifact and eventually, outsmarted this dragon and snuck off with this item. When the party told Deckard Cain about this, Deckard said he would research it. Well a good cut scene would be for me to write a chapter where Deckard is looking through his books in his library, describing what he is thinking and what he discovers. This info isn't something that the party knows about of course but is a fun scene that will eventually bring this tale of mine to life - will make for good reading well after the game is over.

That is my goal, anyway..

I hope I have the time and discipline to keep the blog up to date. :P

Well, the party faced the Butcher last night - it was a riot! The cleric almost bit the dust but fortunately the paladin was able to get there in time to bring him back into the game.

I made video walking you through the areas of the dungeon that the party took last night. It is just a walk through and not actual gaming footage.

(note: for some reason streaming is not working well with this. When the video starts, hit pause until the whole video is downloaded and then play it. it is 65meg or so)

I also posted a lower quality version here:

I love mixing horror into my games - I guess that explains my avatar. :P

So knowing how much you like sound, was that music and the sound effects used during the game? That would have definitely heightened the whole experience 10 fold as it built to crescendo and changed as they moved about. Well done!

Yeah, that is the type of music I play during game, although, I have around 40-50 'songs' that play randomly per scene (scary exploration, combat, suspense, town, etc). I then make sound mixes like 'zombies' and when I activate that, you will hear zombies moaning in the background, mixed in with the music scene that is currently playing. When the zombie scene is over with, I simply turn them off and activate the next mix.

I also have a set of one timers that activate with the flick of a key on the keyboard. For example, door open, door close, 'ah.. fresh meat', 'hello, stay a while an listen', etc.

Really works well without having to consume too much of my GM processes.

That is really cool. We've tried getting sound into our games, but for some reason have always had difficulties.

No thanks, Malekith. I have those books - I think they came with the collectors version of D2.

I am playing 4th edition anyway - it is crazy simple to make your own creatures now.
