Someone posted in the open thread looking for a turn-based rpg to tide him over between irregular D&D sessions.
I plugged MT with a link (As well as Troika's TOEE, because it's amazing). We'll see how it goes.

Is it? I read all the reviews saying it was buggy as all hell. Did they fix all the problems?palmer wrote:http://lifehacker.com/5187113/take-a-de ... #c11664358

Official TOEE is buggy as hell.
And the last released patch (Patch 3) actually makes it WORSE.
Insert fanmodders "Circle of 8" (Co8). They take the last good patch (Patch 2), and then fanpatch to kill all the nasty crashy bugs.

Then they add something like 30% more content to the game, including extra unique items, quests, NPCs, scripted encounters and even an entirely new adventure area with monsters (including rendered sprites!) that weren't even in the original. It also adds various options like changing the level cap, or a "shopping mode" where you start out naked (no clothes even!) but with money and a few merchants to equip yourself (vs the default of standard starting gear and no money)
I had no stability issues running under XP, using a no-cd bypass, thanks to Co8.
The graphics are lovely, the amount of gameplay staggering, and the adherence to 3.5 rules was exceptional - it even has usable crafting feats!
Highly recommended AAAAA++++++++, may have to start playing again now that I've mentioned it.

I have the ToEE discs around here somewhere and remember it being a pain in the donkey because of bugs. I may have to find my discs again, boot up Parallels, and play some fanmod
Thanks for the info.

This inspired me to install this game on my computer again. Never got around to playing it much. Looking forward to the new/more complete additions.palmer wrote:Insert fanmodders "Circle of 8" (Co8). They take the last good patch (Patch 2), and then fanpatch to kill all the nasty crashy bugs.

It's also worth mentioning that they have a "Keep on the Borderlands" fan-module too... and from what I've seen it's pretty awesome.
PS: Is the no-disk hack somewhere trust-worthy?
