CT Broken on Mac OS X?

Post by redct »

I'm a big fan of MapTool (pretty much the only D&D tool besides OpenRPG that works on the Mac), but I've never gotten CharTool to work.

When you start it up, it starts and then crashes with

Code: Select all

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method)
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:675)
	at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:124)
	at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(URLClassLoader.java:260)
	at java.net.URLClassLoader.access$100(URLClassLoader.java:56)
	at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:195)
	at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
	at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188)
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:316)
	at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:280)
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:251)
	at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:374)

This has happened with every single build I've ever tried. :(

CT & IT require Java 6. If you have the proper version of the Mac OS then you can get that from Apple. If not, then as far as I know there isn't a Java 6 version available that works. Instructions on how to set the tools on Mac are here: http://forums.rptools.net/viewtopic.php ... highlight=

There is a project called SoyLatte which provides Java 6 for Mac OS X.4 (Tiger), but I haven't personally tried it. Word is that it works well for many things.

Have any of the Mac users here tried SoyLatte for the RPTools programs?

Success!

After following Craig's instructions (http://forums.rptools.net/viewtopic.php?t=4450&start=0#50964) I was able to get CharTool to start.
