Suggestion of features for maptool

Post by chaoz »

HI Trevor,

I am a wargame fan, and would like to suggest the following:

1. mutual fog of war.

if we can have fog of war against one another, it will be great for war games.

2. transparent fog of war.

ususally you know the terrain but not the location of enemies, so if we get to choose transparent fog instead of solid fog, it will be great.

3. a clock.

time is crucial for war games, so a floating clock will be great, even better if players can pause it.

Thanks!

Chaoz

As long as the person running the server is someone you can trust, have that person start the server with Individual Views selected. Then have that person minimize that window so he can't see anything and start a second instance of MapTool. He then logs in as a player from that second window and is affected by the fog like everyone else.
2. transparent fog of war.

ususally you know the terrain but not the location of enemies, so if we get to choose transparent fog instead of solid fog, it will be great.
MapTool already has this. Just don't activate fog, but have light sources going so the vision and light rules are in play. Then you can see everything on the map but tokens. Just make sure you have the topology drawn in for the terrain.

Click on the link in my signature and watch the Vision and Light tutorial to see what I mean. This is all assuming that you are using version 1.3.

Thanks a lot!

Also, how do you get all the windows hidden into the border?

If you look at the windows you will see a little thumb tack on the top of each one. Click on it and the window gets tacked to the side.

Once we get a working representation for "rounds" (as most of MapTool's usage is probably for d20 games), this will likely follow.
