Players can't connect

Post by trexnco »

Ever since I upgraded from v. 86 when I host a server the players can't seem to connect. The router Im using is a Cisco 2500. Here is a link to it at Amazon for specific: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T9 ... d_i=507846. Do I need to upgrade the router?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing changed between b86-b90 that would require a router upgrade.

You're going to have to provide a lot more information to troubleshoot this issue. For example, you mention that "since you upgraded from b86 you friends can't connect"... Are you saying that you can run a server with b86 on your computer right now and all of your friend can connect just fine?

I'm betting not. If you have the right port forwarded on your router and they are using the same connection info in both b86 and b90 then there should be no difference.

Did your friends upgrade also?

Yeah they are also using v. 90./ I have the prep sent over to another dude who hosts the server. When I first switched out of v.86 to v.87 I was only able to host 4 people to my server at a time. I'm going to attempt to reinstall Java 7.65 and see if there might be a problem there.

Who is actually hosting the server you or your friend? Does he have his port forwarding setup correctly.

There is a networking FAQ in the start server dialog that is invaluable.
But here is what I check when I have problems.
Start a server on your PC. Start a second instance of maptool on your PC and try to connect using the LAN tab.
If that works go to this web site and type in your port number to see if your port can be seen from the Internet. http://www.canyouseeme.org/
If not there is something wrong with your router setup most likely.
If it can be seen then try posting the error message your players get when trying to connect.
Since you upgraded have you verified that your Alias and password are the same as before?
