really weird. have you tried installing a mouse driver (one that belongs to exactly the type of mouse you have instead of the windows default?). It also does not hurt to check you have the latest graphics drivers.

I'll be willing to help you troubleshoot over google hangouts. PM me if you're interested. I recommend removing java 8 and installing java 7 though. Also, firewall software can be a pain. I put my router firewall up to max and my players were unable to connect. I've also seen in the past disabling the installed firewall software to not work until you restart the computer.

Oh well, it isn't that important, truth be told. I'll do a parallel install of an older Java version for the upcoming game. Just finding it irritating that even a complete re-install of the OS doesn't alleviate the problem.

Hate to say it, but that means the problem wasn't the OS to begin with.

It sounds like the problem is mouse/java related since you don't have the problem with Java 6.

What mouse are you using and what driver for the mouse are you using? Do you have a second mouse you can try?
