7/31/2010 - Currently not looking for players.

Version: 1.3b70
Voicechat: ??
Properties: Deviant Null
Time: (In general) every other Saturday, 9 pm CT

Setting:

Before the current age, the material world existed as two distinct realms: the Golden Realm, inhabited by eladrin, humans (and by extension half-elves), devas, dragonborn, halflings, etc.; and the Twilight Realm, inhabited by dwarves, elves, tieflings, drow, and a variety of monstrous races.

The Golden Realm consisted of a series of landmasses floating in midair upon a sea of dark, roiling clouds. The people of the Golden Realm were unaware that there was anything else to the world as the clouds were toxic and immediately deadened any magic that entered them, thus forming an effectively impenetrable barrier. Commerce was conducted through the use of domesticated flying creatures as well as magical airships. The peoples of the Golden Realm were largely peaceful but limited by a lack of resources and the difficulty of establishing trade and commerce. Socially, there was a hierarchy of control with the eladrin almost always holding the highest positions in society.

The Twilight Realm, on the other hand, was a dark, brutal, and savage place. The sky was forever darkened by a thick blanket of clouds so days ranged between twilight and total darkness. Plant life was hardy and in many places adapted to be more "bloodthirsty" than one might expect of a plant. Battles over scarce choice pieces of land and herds of animals were constantly fought. Things in the Twilight Realm were largely anarchic and tribal, with the exception of the drow and the dwarves. The dwarves lived in underground strongholds, cultivating fungi and raising herds of underdark beasts. Their numbers were never great, but they left the surface, the other races, and most of the underdark alone, jealously guarding their isolated strongholds. The drow, on the other hand, were fiercely expansionary and, by the end of the last age, had managed to conquer large areas of land and enslave hosts of "lesser races" to live off. The dwarves were the only race to offer any organized resistance to the drow, and the two races shared a mutual enmity. Immediately before the cataclysm that ended the last age, the two races had begun a genocidal war (that would almost have certainly ended in the extinction of the dwarves).

The dwarves were saved and the last age ended when all magic failed. In an instant, everything was changed as the airborne continents rained down from the heavens. All races, save the dwarves in their deep strongholds, took massive losses as entire cities were destroyed and the landscape reshaped. It is also likely that some Drow cities in the deep underdark remained virtually untouched, though only rumors of such cities exist. The battered races of the Golden Realm and the Twilight Realm tried to rebuild. The flux of magical power at the time of the Cataclysm also opened gateways to other planes of existence introducing extraplanar races and creatures into the world.

It is now hundreds of years after the Cataclysm, and remnants of the last era still abound. Ruins dot the land and, often where the wreckage is worst, tall, black pillars rise up out of the battered landscape. The wilderness also abounds and is home to monsters and tribes of vicious humanoids.

Within this chaos, a handful of prominent cities have emerged. As civilization re-emerged in these centers, worship of Erathis became prominint. She is still the most popular deity and her faithful hold positions of authority in most cities. The great cities are also home to members of all races, though leadership positions typically rest with humans, eladrin, and other races that belonged to the Golden Realm. Drow, along with the more monstrous races, are often relegated to slums and poverty and treated with disdain by the "Golden" races.

There is also a mistrust of magic among the general populace and it is carefully regulated by the Council of Magi. The Council is led by a circle of three consisting of a divine practioner worshiping Erathis, an arcane practitioner, and a psionic practioner. The Council's chief job is the regulation of magic, especially ritual magic, which is believed to have led to the Cataclysm. All individuals drawing power from an arcane, divine, or psionic power source are expected to register with the Council and follow it's rules. The Unregistered are hunted and, if caught, killed or imprisoned.

It is rumored that the Cataclysm was a result of a massive expenditure of primal power. As such, primal magic is strictly forbidden, and all practioners are regarded as Unregistered. Rightly or wrongly, most of the general populace is extremely frightened by the thought of Primal magic and the devestation it can produce. The more stereotypically "barbarous races" (like Goliaths) are also viewed with distrust by most due to the association with shamanistic magic.

Players:

1. cow83 - Half-Elf Ardent/Bard
2. TwilightBourne - Drow Sorceress
3. SCampos89 - Dwarf Fighter
4. fortune - Human Sorceress
5.

Tentative:
acoolhobo

I've been looking for someone to do a quick campaign with for low level characters. When I talk low level I mean 1's and 2's. Also Eberron would be preferable please.

I'd be happy to play with you and would plan on starting at L1. I'm not familiar with Eberron though and prefer a sort of homebrew setting and approach. If there are some specific elements of Eberron you're really interested in, I can see if I can work those in. If it's a deal-breaker, I understand.

You can go ahead with the homebrew. As long as it isn't too drastic of a difference between the settings. (see: Dinosaurs and lasers guns everywhere)this will give the basic Idea of eberron

OK all. Here's an outline of the world I'm thinking of playing in.

I've been building stuff in b70, so we'll try that.

I've also been playing around with Deviant Null's properties and tokens and will have those available. I've got mixed feelings about these elaborate macros, etc. Sometimes I think they're really great and other times I think they are overly complicated and slow things down. In other words, if you'd rather role in the chat window than use macros, go for it. If it seems like it's a problem, we'll deal with it later.

What are preferences regarding voice chat? Again, I'm ambivalent having had a great time in games with no voice chat and a terrible time in games with voice chat and vice versa. Anyway, Skype, Ventrilo, or nothing?

The setting will be fairly generic fantasy within the world outlined below.

World:

Before the current age, the material world existed as two distinct realms: the Golden Realm, inhabited by eladrin, humans (and by extension half-elves), devas, dragonborn, halflings, etc.; and the Twilight Realm, inhabited by dwarves, elves, tieflings, drow, and a variety of monstrous races.

The Twilight Realm, on the other hand, was a dark, brutal, and savage place. The sky was forever darkened by a thick blanket of clouds so days ranged between twilight and total darkness. Tentative Players:
1. acoolhobo - human fighter
2. mfrizzell - human avenger
3. Jal.Hiro - human paladin
4. Twilightbourne - drow sorceress
5.

I won't run with more than 5 players and would be happy with any number between 3 and 5.

Characters will start at level 1 using standard character creation rules. Anything in the Character Builder is fair game, though I'd prefer a race that is not found only in a Monster Manual.

I'd prefer you send me files from the DnD character builder from Wizards to look at. (You can email it to me at cbh7625 at yahoo.com.) Of course, any other way to see a character sheet is fine such as a link to a character sheet on a PbP forum or anything else.
