Corrupt Maptool Campaign!

Post by Zomicron »

When I try to load my saved campaign, I get this error:

2012-03-25 19:18:23,878 [client.MapTool:291] ERROR - msg.error.failedLoadCampaign
java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file
at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method)

at net.rptools.maptool.util.PersistenceUtil.loadCampaign(PersistenceUtil.java:404)
at net.rptools.maptool.client.AppActions$72.run(AppActions.java:1980)

I have already tried to open files in the backup and autosave folder. These have all failed with the same error.
I used WinRAR to try to extract the file and I receive an error there as well.

I am pretty sure that the file is corrupt in some way. Is there anyway to fix it??

I have spent over 15 hours on this file and I do not want to start over from scratch,
especially since I worked only 2 days ago perfectly fine.

Thanks in advanced for any help!

PS - I tried to attach file, but it is to big :(

Google for "fixing corrupt zip file". There's nothing that MT people can help you with, if standard archivers such as WinRAR do not open the file.
Once the archive is in workable form, MT might open it successfully. Depending on what you needed to do to get it repaired, anything can happen: from everything's okay, over a couple of missing entries to the file stays corrupt. Keep you fingers crossed.

I can only suggest that you get Dropbox, in thi case for two reasons:
1 it has a version history, so if the file gets screwed you can restore an earlier version
2. If you want to share a file you can dump it in the public folder and share the link here ( not that that would be usefull in this particular case... But still)

Of course there is a 3rd reason, if you use my referral link you (and I) get 250mb extra storage space  (Dropbox referral).

Good luck with the repair.

There is only one problem with this, all programs found to fix cost upwards of $20.

Is there some free trial version that will allow for like one file fixed for free??

All trial versions I find show me that they can fix it and what the problems are, but won't actually save the fixed file.

I just found a program that uncorrupted my file!!!

The only problem is, that more than half of my tokens, objects, backgrounds, etc
are now giant Red X's. When I go into token properties, and try to switch image,
the image will change as long as it isn't an image that currently has an X on it.

I also can not add new tokens that have the supposed same image as the ones with X's
on them.

The file opens but I think it is still slightly corrupt.

Any help is appreciated!

Another note! I found that if I go into token properties and
change the image and then after saving the file, closing, and reopening it
the Red X is changed back to correct image!!!!!!!!!!!

Only problem.... like 500 X's to go,
slowly changing by hand one after another
after another
after another
after another...

weeeeee!

I would advise you to transfer your material to a new campaign file.
to do this:
- export campaign buttons (if any)
- export campaign properties
- export the maps

create a new campaign file an import the three above. It still possible that the tokens are still broken, what you can do then are two thingsL
1. for tokens that are only images, you can unzip the original campaign file, there is a directory 'assets' this contains all the tokens as png, these you can drag onto your new campaign.
2. for tokens that contain info, eg properties, macros etc. you need to save them (right mouse click) and drag these onto the new campaign file, if the images are still broken you can try dragging the png files in the assets directory over there image (double click token, goto the image tab, there drag the png over the portrait).

Zomicron, could you possibly tell the rest of us how you recovered the file?
