I am using the latest version 1.3.b87. I am trying to setup LAN use, but I cannot get it. HOWEVER, if I use the 1.3.b84 version, it works fine. Does this newest version use a different port or something? Under Connect to the server, I can see the game listed under RPTools.net. When I go to LAN, nothing, unless I use later stated version.

Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance.

b87 had a UPnP bug, so you need to set up port forwading to your ip address from your router. Make sure to uncheck the UPnP box when starting a server after you have that set up.

I have an AT&T router that does not use UPnP. I did setup some kind of port forwarding because I was not able to connect at all, but after the port forwarding it worked fine, under the earlier version. Also, I am Not Very Bright when it comes to networking. I have read the network file, but if you have other info that would help me, I would be very happy to read it.

There shouldn't be any networking difference for LAN other than the UPnP. Now are you using an internal ip for the client computers to connect to your server? For example, if your ip is 192.168.1.100 and your port forwarding points to your computer, the client will click the land tab and put in your ip and port number (51234 default). Does that not work? And if not, what does it say?

Under the RPTools.net and Direct connect, I get the Connection timed out error. Under the LAN, nothing is shown even after hitting the refresh button. Under RPTools.net, I can see the game I need to connect to, just cannot connect.

Under File | Connection Information.. what does it say. Does it match up with your port forwarding info on your server?

MT Info
Local Address:
External Address:
Port:

Router Port Forwarding
Start Port:
End Port:
Address:

Is your firewall on/off? Does it allow access to JAVA and if you edit, does it have the correct path to javaw file. For example, my firewall is on, has Java(TM) Platform SE binary: D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe

If your external address isn't an external, then you're behind another router. Also, try changing the ports to something like 6801 and reset your nic (or log on computer) and restart your router. Also, from client computer, try to ping the server computer with local ip. You can use cmd as run command and ping [ip address].

Router Port Forwarding
Start Port: 51234
End Port: 51234
Address: None for me to enter. I have a 2wire i38hg router

Firewall is on. I tried it with it off, but no difference. I found something online that helped me setup port forwarding.

If I ping, I get Destination host unreachable. Do not know why. Both computers can get online, surf, get Email just fine. Will try to change the port, but from the RPTool file I read, I should use 51234.

WOW! First, Thank you so much for spending your valuable time trying to help a moron. I was having problems with my netbook, so I rebooted my router. I just rebooted about a month or 2 ago, so rebooting was the furthest from my mind. I can now use the latest version and connect under LAN like I wanted. I am even able to shut off port forwarding.

I tried this on my netbook. When I did the firewall warning popped up asking me what to do. Sooooooo... I apologize for wasting your time, but THANK YOU for your help.
