Problem with Server Hosting

Post by Raktus »

So, I start a server and no one can see it. I try to force a port open, still no one can see it. I disable my firewall and no one can see it. Can someone help me figure out why Maptools is being so anti-social?

What version of MT are you using, b89? Are you using UPnP? Do you have 2 routers on your network, one by cable company and your personal router?

Answers should be yes, yes and no.

Technically, your router always has it on but MT for some dumb reason wants you to check the box. Most of the time these kind of checks are made behind the scenes.

So, my DM is now having a related problem. We can all see him on the server listing, but cannot connect to him. He's using b89.

Still a routing problem. He can tell the service his ip and server name, but when he gets a reply it doesn't make it to his computer. 2 routers on the same network is a common problem. How is his network mapped? Many people with working systems through lets say comcast have this: modem/router --> computer. He should check his router settings and make sure UPnP is turned on. Whenever you change network settings on a router and you're not connecting, try unplugging it for 1 minute and restarting the computer.

He says he only has the one router... also he tried the unplug thing and it didn't work. When he selects UPnP in maptools it gives back:

"UPnP Error - No Internet Gateway Devices found.
UPnP port mapping will not be available."

EDIT: He remapped all his port forwardings and it seems to work now.
