Do players need to have their settings identical to the DM?
Just curious. I notice my MapTool runs a lot better when I set the max mem to 2048, but not all of my players can run MapTool at those settings. If I raise mine is it going to cause issues for them? Like, I'm aware that if the framework uses too much memory for them they might have issues, but I'm just wondering if there's anything inherently bad about it that would mess things up for them?

Your setting don't directly affect your players. But if you have a large map that runs fine for you, then they may have issues. Having your settings the same as theirs is a good litmus test for functionality. But I wouldn't worry about it unless they can't run MapTool.
