Bad install maybe? Stuff like that is usually associated with a driver or memory issue. A corrupted download could effect one of those things as well.

Im still running on 1.4 and this has just started happening to me as well, primarily last Saturday, on Sunday i found out that another player in my game started getting this problem as well.

basically when maptool first starts it seems fine then after (x) passes the UI just stars freaking out, if anyone figures out what is going on it would be much appreciated.

Most likely a graphic card issue, try updating it , or downgrading. Did you have windows update on Saturday or before?

There was also a Java update within the last few days. But a driver update is more likely.

I did both of those things unfortunately but since corrupted files where mentioned i ended up deleting maptools catch, that seems to have sorted the problem out. i have had maptools running for a little under three hours now in order to double check and thus far no glitches have appeared.
