Big Storm killed my ability to create a server

Post by Dunsparce »

Basically, for over a year now I have been able to easily set up a server on maptools for everyone to use. It only took hours of talking to someone holding my hand through every little process because I'm retarded when it comes to computer stuff.

However last saturday there was a huge storm that knocked out my internet, and when I finally got it back, I seem to no long be able to create a server that people can actually enter, with everyone getting a connection time out message. I set up a static IP and a crapton of other stuff I barely understand before said storm, all of the help guides are to complex for me to comprehend(as I said, I pretty much needed someone to hold my hand the whole way through to get this), but I'm the only one with a stable enough connection to host in our group.

My first thought is that your public IP changed when the internet came back up. When you say you set up a static IP, was that on your computer or on the outside of the router? Start the server, and go to the File menu and click on Connection Information. That will give you your local address and the External Address. Make sure the External Address (and port) are what your players are connecting to.

The other possibility that comes to mind is that your ISP changed something (or something changed on its own) in your router, and it's now blocking incoming connections. Or maybe it lost some port forwarding settings.

But check that public IP first.

It was on my computer, not the router. The IPs for the server are still the same as it always was, and the port is 51234. We spent an hour in voice chat with each other making sure everyone had all the numbers down that were listed on the server information, but the error still kept coming up.
