Here is a tutorial for creating overlays in Paint Shop Pro from Adrian Walton:
1. Create a new picture, 300x300 pixels with a transparent background at 300dpi.
2. Choose Menu/Effects/Artisitic Effects/Magnifying lens.
3. Shape tab - Set all spinners to 0 and lens type to spherical.
4. Properties tab - Set opacity to 0, Shininess to 30 and Gloss to 50. Environment map should be unckecked.
5. Illumination tab - set Ambience maximum to 100 and minimum to 0.
6. Drag Light 1 to the top right on the little position ball, tick back light, set colour to white and make highlight size 45.
7. Add a light (Light 2). Ensure the position is directly overhead (i.e. in the middle of the ball), ensure back-light is not ticked, set colour to white and highlight size to 0.
8. Frame tab - Cross-section should be 'rounded square' and a thickness of 5.
9. Choose the material you like - the silver token is 'silver' (surprise, suprise!). You can further change the colour with the palette selector.
10. Hit OK.
11. Choose the selection tool and change selection type to circular.
12. Drag the selection from the centre of the picture, position 150, 150, until the selection circle is to the outer edge of the lens border. Use the mover tool to move the selection only to that it lines up nicely to just meet the outer edge - you don't want any transparency showing through at this border.
13. Choose /Menu/Selections/Invert to swap the selection to outside of the lens. There should be a 1 or 2 pixel gap between the lens and the edge of the picture to allow the selection to go all around the lens.
14. Choose the flood fill tool and fill the selection with the magenta colour (R:255 G:0 B:255) for the token transparency.
15. Save as a .png and you're done!
