After doing up 300 warhammer fantasy roleplay tokens, I've clearly discovered what Tokentool DESPERATELY needs:

1. "Stay on Top" toggle. That way I don't have go back and forth 300 times on the taskbar.
2. Hot-key for the "screenshot" (screen capture) e.g. "F5" or something.

Anybody think of others?

Screenshot? Would that be something people need often enough to have it as a function as opposed to using "print screen" and an art program?

I always thought it would be nice to have anchor points you can set in the main screen and matching ones on images. So you could set where "Anchor A" always lands on the main screen and set an "Anchor A" point on an image so it always lands at that point on the main screen.

Then you could create images that can be used for randomizing tokens. Different heads/torsos/legs. Equipment. Treasure piles. Magic circles. Units. etc...

Could be more complicated than would be worth having, but I don't know how hard it would be to set up and how many people would actually use it.

By screenshot, I meant "screen capture". Every time I need a screen shot, I've got to open the tool tab...when you do 300 tokens..that's 600-700 clicks..make it a clean 800 because oftentimes it would click with just a mouseover and then I'd have to open it again.

Why don't you drag it into TT?

Use Linux. KDE has a function for keeping a particular window on top (so this could be applied to any window). And you can configure a hotkey to copy the current screen (or window) to the clipboard or to a file (I think it's KSnapshot that does that). Then just drag the image into TokenTool.

I must still be missing something. Do you want a way for TT to grab the larger image from an image search without leaving the search page?

Actually all I want is to hit a "hotkey" so that it screen captures instead of having to click: Tool > Screen capture. For example, to SAVE, all i have to do is hit ctrl-S correct? Well, I want something to bring the red capture box up without having to click back and forth.

I use "F5" as an example. It could be "ctrl-9" for all I care, but something has to be less user intensive than moving the mouse back and forth and clicking to open Tool>screen capture every time.

The problem with "Dragging" is that your main window stays on top. If TOKENTOOL had a "stay on top" toggle, then that problem would be solved. Otherwise I'm minimizing and maximizing the window..again, too many mouse clicks and room for operator error (accidentally hitting X for example during a game).

I obviously don't want to install a new operating system when a simple hotkey could do the trick :)

Thoughts?

In these kind of situations, I minimize the donor window a bit and put the recipient window behind it where I can see enough to drop the file on it.

Agreed - both would be nice. I also wished the drag&drop worked a little bit better. For instance I can't drop images from Chrome into TT and have had issues dropping images from TT into MapTool directly (when replacing an existing image)

I'd like to see a "paste clipboard" (Ctrl-V) option.

Then I could hit the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard, then Ctrl-V in Token Tool.

Also the drag and drop work even on full screen. You just drag to the task bar over the application and it will move the application to the front. Or you could buy Snagit :) It does exactly that type of capture technique. hit Print screen capture then open snagit copy all. then paste.

on windows systems, just right click on some empty spot on your taskbar and 'tile windows vertically or horizontally'

you can stand to lose a few inches off the width of your browser or run it in windowed mode
