I know who to go to when I finally decide that *I* need a splash screen.

Is it me or is the purple and red not playing well together.

Note, I'm an art/graphics moron so please disregard comment as highly suspect. :-)

Well, since I loved the last one I figure I can crit this one... ;)

I'm not as crazy about it.

The "Dice" text doesn't seem to fit that well, and the background is a little flat.

I don't have a problem with the purple and red interplay, but I can definitely see Full Bleed's point about the background feeling a little "flat". Token Tool's splashscreen feels like it has a little more to it because of the 3 layers: title, horse and background.

That being said, I still like it and will drop it in a build of DiceTool. Need to add the icon anyway, this gives me double incentive.

Maybe a slight bumpmap effect applied to the background image would help the flatness. Something like this but done just to the background layer.

That is probably a tad too much.

If it were to be done I would think it should be done before any other effects were applied to the background.

I like that, the effect needs to be subtle or the background gets busy and starts to mess with the readability of the nameplate, that's why it is light to start with.

How's this:

I think it helps without overpowering the nameplate.

I think the new one looks better, but I think what you need is some kind of singular iconic object overlay on the left hand side, over the background but under the "Dice" text. It would tie it in better with the Token Tool Splash (Horse) and MapTool Splash (Map Rose.)

I think a hexagon with the kind of shading you put on the horse would probably work.

I like that idea and I think it should be a d12. Why? Because the d12 just doesn't get the kind of love that it should. 8)

Heh, a pentagon works too... I love my d12's!

I was just picking a shape that was slightly more universal. WotC shouldn't be allowed to give d20's a bad name. ;)
