A little help?

Post by mcbobbo »

Okay, I'm about ready to start my Pathfinder-Maptool campaign, but these frameworks are making my brain hurt. I'm open to all sorts of reasons as to 'why' this could be the case, but I could really use some help here if anyone would be so kind. My experience thus far is with Saga Starwars and maptool. That framework was relatively simply to the ones stickied here. Anyway, here's my info. Please ask for anything/everything I may have left out:

1) I'm using the newest version of maptool to date: 1.3.b82

2) I've tried both the 'PFS-FW_Core5-V3.cmpgn' and 'PFS-LindsayCore05-B74.cmpgn' files. (Neither seems non-broken as far as I can tell...)

3) I'd like to do the following:
a) Drag a blank token from the library to the map. (I have several that I've made that are simply letters. I'm testing against a dwarf, so I'm using the one for the letter 'D'.)
b) Set it's properties to that of 'Pathfinder', as included in either framework and/or on that separate post in this same forum.
c) Use a statblock import macro to copy some/many/all of the stats into the token
d) Use maptool itself to edit in the stats that don't copy.
e) Save off the token file for later use.

4) I'd like to repeat the above for all the PC's and at a minimum the NPC's for the first module I have planned.

5) I'm willing to use any statblock I can as needed, and cannot yet determine which format I should be using. Here's a simple one that seems like it ought to work, from out of PCGen:
Berekast Keshani, Male Dwarf Cleric3  CR 2; Size: M Face: 5 ft. Type Humanoid ( Dwarf, Dwarf ); HD (3d8)+6; hp 23; Init +0 (+0 Dex, +0 Misc); Spd Walk 20 ft.; AC 17 (touch 10, flatfooted 17), Sling +2 50 ft./B (1d4+1 20/x2 Carried M ) or *Warhammer +3 0 ft./B (1d8+1 20/x3 Primary M ); SA: Acid Dart (Sp), Aura of Good (Ex), Aura of Law (Ex), Channel Positive Energy (Su), Defensive Training (Ex), Greed (Ex), Hardy (Ex), Hatred (Ex), Orisons, Resistant Touch (Sp), Spontaneous Casting, Stability (Ex), Steady (Ex), Stonecunning (Ex), Weapon Familiarity (Ex), ; Vision: Darkvision (60 ft.) Observations:

Under 'PFS-FW_Core5-V3.cmpgn'-

A) Using the method above with 'Convert statblock to token v2.0', I get the following error:

"Unknown JSON type "" in function "json.contains"."

None of the properties seem to have applied.

B) Using 'Statblock2token' I get a stack overflow. Some of the properties apply, like hp and saves. But not others such as stats.

C) Using 'Edit Character sheet' I get a stack overflow.

D) Using 'edit Character' > 'Core' I get a stack overflow.

Under - 'PFS-LindsayCore05-B74.cmpgn'

A) With 'Convert statblock to token v2.0':

"Unknown JSON type "" in function "json.contains"."

B) Using 'Statblock2token', same as above.

C) Same as above.

D) Opens properly. Seems to work okay. Missing lots of stuff, though...

Another statblock gets slightly different results:
Berekast Keshani: Male Dwarf Cleric3 ; CR 2; Medium Humanoid (Dwarf, Dwarf);  HD (3d8)+6; hp 23; Init +0; Spd Walk 20 ft.; AC 17, touch 10, flat-footed 17, Base Atk +2; CMB +3; CMD +13; Atk: +2 Ranged (1d4+1/20/x2, Sling , Range 50 ft. ) or +3 Melee (1d8+1/20/x3, *Warhammer ) or ; Full Atk: +2 Ranged (1d4+1/20/x2, Sling , Range 50 ft. ) or +3 Melee (1d8+1/20/x3, *Warhammer ) or ; SA: Acid Dart (Sp), Aura of Good (Ex), Aura of Law (Ex), Channel Positive Energy (Su), Defensive Training (Ex), Greed (Ex), Hardy (Ex), Hatred (Ex), Orisons, Resistant Touch (Sp), Spontaneous Casting, Stability (Ex), Steady (Ex), Stonecunning (Ex), Weapon Familiarity (Ex), ; SQ: Darkvision (60 ft.); AL: LG; SV Fort +6, Ref +2, Will +7; STR 12, DEX 11, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 17, CHA 9 .

In this one I get several 'value' prompts, at least one of which causes a stack overflow...

QUESTIONS:

I) Which framework should I use...

II) What does a well-formed statblock look like for purposes of these tools?

III) Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks!

Stack overflow means you need to up your stack size. I would suggest starting at 4 and if that works use it. What system are you playing Pathfinder or 3.5(I assume Pathfinder based on your statements above)? If you are using PC-Gen, I would suggest using Mosat's PC-Gen output sheet that works with the statblock2token macro. Or, you can always use the Setup Blank macro.

You're getting stack overflows because you didn't set the stack size as described in the first post in the FW thread(s). Most frameworks require a 4MB stack size (some require more). You can also search the forum to find other posts on how to change the stack size, but there are sticky threads in teh various MapTool forums as well.

Once you make that change, your examples will work, ie. the process you are using is correct and will generate the proper results. I didn't look at your statblocks in detail to determine if they meet the format requirements of the macros, but they look right at first glance.

There's a PDF in the root that explains things a bit better that the pointers above this post, but yes, I did need to increase the setting in the cfg file AND launch the launcher with a 'M' size appended to it.

Got rid of my overflow errors thus far.

Meanwhile I've been working on an output statblock by looking at the actual content of the macro (which I stumbled into due to an error...)

I'll share once I get it working.

Though, I may well change frameworks now that I've gotten some good results.
