[Rumble 5.1.3] More Manual Rolls (Saves, Initiative, etc.)

Post by secabeen »

Is there any easy way to enable manual rolls for saving throws and other miscellaneous rolls? I want to use the framework for our tabletop game. The condition management system looks great, but I don't see a way for the framework to prompt you for the result of the saving throws that you roll at the end of your turn to resolve save ends conditions. Instead it just makes those rolls for you. My players like to roll the dice themselves.

For saves, a workaround is to roll the dice, and then put a massive modifier in the mod box for that save, but I'd love a more comprehensive option.

Yes, there is a way to get the option to roll manually: Use my framework instead! :D Seriously, you are given prompts for all rolls (to hits, damage, etc) including saves. The box will be pre-filled with a MapTool-generated roll for those who don't want to use physical dice. Of course this can be overridden with your own value. Most importantly, it easily converts Rumble tokens in seconds so you may want to give it a whirl (the link is in my epilog below).

Interesting! I'll have to give that a try. If I'm setting up a new campaign that has never used Rumble before, is there anything I should know? It looks like a lot of the documents presume that you're coming from Rumble's stuff.

Secondly, does it work well in the tabletop environment, where you're not tracking powers with the Framework, and only use it for HP tracking, Initiative, and Condition tracking? I think my players will want to continue managing their characters on paper, as that's part of the D&D experience.

Yes, Rumble usage to setup your tokens is pretty much mandatory at this point. I will look into JamesManhattan's work to convert a CB file directly but that feature is a long way off. Rumble's is real easy to use so that may be all you need to start with.

On the other hand it may not be such a good idea if you have remote users. My former group does and they're having a heck of a time with network lag. This is because Rumble's tokens are quite large where as the MPB's are relatively small.

The MPB is more for power users who don't find Rumble has enough features. Go through my Feature List in the Transition Guide as well as the Training Videos. That should give you a good idea whether this is for your group. Yes you can track your stuff manually if you want but this kind of defeats the purpose of a framework in general. Like most of us, my group comes from a miniatures/battlemat background as well but we swear by the MPB now.
