I've been gaming with Peddlewin for 10 to 15 years now (has it really been that long?). MapTool brought the old group back together after we dispersed geographically.

When it came time to redesign the site, the first person I turned to was Peddlewin. He does sites like this for a living. It's a great example of how folks from across the talent spectrum can help an open source project. Thanks for your help, sir. It is greatly appreciated.

Long time gamer, new Maptool user here.

Been looking at VTT software for a while, to support my gaming group in local play - (we wanted something for battlemaps, visual aids, etc.).
We all still roll dice, move minis, etc. by hand personally, and like it that way (no offense to anyone else who likes to automate their combat, if it makes you happy, I am happy for you....

After a bit of research I selected Maptool. While it is not as "pretty" as some of newer offerings out there - it does seem hands down, to have the most robust feature set - and looks like it can do most of what we need it to do.

While it seems the community does not have the numbers it used to, that there is still a bit of participation here, so I decided to get an account, and share experiences, questions, etc.
As an IT professional, I can appreciate the hard work so many have put into this project over the years.
Thank you.

I am trying to watch as many videos, read tutorials and what not as fast as I can, and have managed to figure a lot of stuff out ....(thanks to those who have worked on documentation....I know I hate making documentation....).

As soon as I can figure out the best forums to post any questions, I will do so.

I am experimenting with both 1.4.05 (works great!) and 1.4.1.7 (I think I am doing some thing wrong....).

Regards,

Dave Pak

Hello everybody. :)

I used to visit these forums years ago but got out of gaming after real life got in the way of my fun. Now I'm trying to start a new campaign set in Savage Worlds RIFTS and have rejoined the forum in hopes of finding some new maps and tiles to use in that setting. Since RIFTS can cover anything from ancient peasant cottages to futuristic cityscapes, the landscape is wide open. If you know of any exterior building sets from any setting, please let me know.

Here is a map that I put together based on ... Marvel Super Heroes? map (I'm not sure as it has been sitting in a folder for years. The buildings and street sections are all individual pieces that I put together into a single map. If there is interest and time allows, I aay break it down into a collection of .png files so you guys will have full control of how to build the city to your needs.

I also seem to recall MapTool being able to paint roads that looked like cobblestone and other surfaces and there is a chance that I could be wrong on this but if I'm not, can anyone kindly remind me how to do that again after reinstalling the latest version?
Does that smell normal to you?!

You use the drawing tool and select textures as the fill and border. Snap to Grid in the drawing will be useful as well.

Thanks! I tried it out and it is awesome! It will help immensely when I start putting together towns and cities!

Greetings all!

I'm new to the forum and VTT's in general. I am planning on using MapTool for a live campaign. Eventually i plan on building a tv into a table. For now I will just be using the tv with a piece of plexiglass over it. I look forward to getting more into the meat of the program. It looks very capable. Any advice?

In my last tabletop game, I used my tv at the other end of the table for everyone seated to see and my computer screen at the other end for the GM. I run 2 instances of MT, one for players and one for me. I lock the vision so the players view follows where I move the view. If need be, I can toggle it off. The player can then direct where to move the tokens during combat. I also make the init rolls just for convenience. ie press a button for all the players and npc vs manually entering all those number each encounter. My computer has 2 outputs for monitors. I just bought a 10' dvi to hdmi cable.
