for the longest time we have thrown around the idea of a Digital game table,
In the very near future that idea is becomeing reality.

The person running the game is getting up to speed on how to use the program i get the daunting task of "how to make it modular" I have a private server that is running minecraft but with its power its mostly waisted on that task alone. My questions are the fallowing.

What is the best way to Host all the relivent files on sed server so that the DM doesnt have to carry rp tools around on a thrumb drive or build the maps and carry them around, also so he can go from computer to computer to edit the file.

IVe scoured the forums and ive seen refrences to Visual SVN and while i understand how it works generaly im not sure its what im wanting which is a Resource server so that the GM doesnt have to download all apropriate resources on each computer he intends to use and then finally on the machine running the game, im simply trying to make the mans job easier.

Thanks for the input

first of all I would suggest using dropbox for your gm as that way he *will* have everything available on every computer he works with.
Next you can run maptools from a server. the server can be logged in as pc or gm (though that won't really matter as im assuming that the server won't be playing).
The rest of the group, including the gm can login to the running server game again both as pc or gm. IRC (but not sure) the gm *can* save the game locally on his pc. If thats the case then dropbox comes in handy as you can link the file through dropbox to your server, that way when the gm saves the file on the server is updated.

My dropbox referral. If you use this then both you and me get 500Mb extra space. 2.5Gb total.

Plenty of file-storage programs will let guests keep in synch with the files, so once you're all hooked up to the same folder, it's automatically synchronised for you, as wolph said.

I run my MapTool server from my pc, it's incredibly light-weight and only a dial-up connection would struggle I'd imagine. I connect to my own server from the same pc to test my framework also, which is possible.

If you are good at keeping your server backed up to a NAS, I wouldn't use DropBox. I would use pogoplug and keep the data hosted on the server and use normal file sharing on the network for when the DM shows up. This way the only limit on storage is server space.

SIDE: Isnt pogoplug limited to your own upstream for every file access? That was always a concern of mine and a reason I'm at dropbox.
