I remember Whelm from White Plume Mountain adventure. I found this page about Whelm which talks about it's powers of various incarnations: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Whelm

There was a 2E adventure, Axe of the Dwarvish Lords, which gives some details on these. By name they're the Brutal Pick, Earthheart Forge, Anvil of Songs, and Shaping Hammer. The axe itself is actually called the Fierce Axe in this context.

The other tools were made to use the axe, and each has about a page of text in the back of the adventure detailing its powers. It's about what you might expect- the pick digs, the forge gets hot, the anvil gives a smith masterwork items, the hammer breaks stuff.
