Gallery: House Keeping and Links.

Post by dorpond »

OK, we all love the ability to be able to link our creations to the boards that we put in the Gallery; however, what happens when we do some house cleaning or re-organize our art work on the gallery?

Broken links I would guess.

I guess it is important to be organized first so that this won't happen, huh?

Any other options? Any way we can keep the same link but move where the picture is in the Gallery or will it do this automatically?

Not sure if you change the category/album in which an image resides if the image is physically moved. It may just be logically re-arranged.

Until MrIce chimes in, you might just run a test here in the post.

I'd do it, but I'm afraid I don't have an entry in the art gallery :P

Ok here's a test. Linked image before Move:

Image

Edit: so the answer is yes, using the Move Photo option changes the location path. Though it only changed the path by one number, 3512-1 to 3512-2.

Double-edit: Moving it back didn't help either, changed the path to 3512-3. Odd.

Bummer, too bad it isn't smarter.

MrIce, is there something that could be adjusted here ?

Test:

Picture is in my Tokens area:

OK, I moved it - still there? Picture is no longer in the Tokens are but rather in my Examples album.

Good, it is still there :)

OK, I guess I am not so worried about re-organizing my stuff.

Why did mine work Steel?

I just clicked on the image pulldown and told it to Move.

I know it isn't some cache setting because I checked it on another PC and it is still here.

Maybe it puts a pointer or redirector in the directory where the file was originally.

Beats me, same thing I did. How did you link it here in the forum? I went to the image, right-clicked and selected "Copy image location", and pasted that between the IMG tags in the past.

I always right click on the image, go to properties, mark the link, copy and paste it. Then after I do that, I highlight it and click the IMG button.

*shrug*

Are you taking the image at the first level or are you clicking on it again so that it only shows that one image on the page? I am taking the image when you cannot click on the image anymore; I do not take it at the container level.

Here is the moved version - let's compare the links.

As you can see, the old location had a different link than the new location, however, they both work.

That tells me there must be a pointer somewhere.

I did the same thing, at the image level, not the album selection level. Strange why it would work on one and not the other. I'm not concerned, though, I categorize stuff at the start.
