MapTool 1.2 b1 progress

Post by trevor »

Coming along nicely.

I've integrated flexdock, and I'm already addicted to the flexibility. However, I am noticing that it doesn't seem entirely stable. Several times it has pegged the CPU on startup and never recovers, I have to kill it and start over. Fortunately there's a commercial docking library that offers free licenses for oss projects, jide.com So if flexdock can't be stablized we'll go that route.

I've also got the very first part of the dynamic fow integrated. It's pretty sweet. Use the draw tools to draw up a map, then switch to the topology tool and draw the "walls", then add a Vision to your tokens and the vision is blocked by the topology. Very easy, very cool.

Oh yeah, I also put the macro buttons into their own panel.

I expect to make the first 1.2 dev build over the next couple days (Holiday present). It'll be buggy, but will give you an idea of where things are headed.

NOTE: For those that are new to the development release cycle, the beginning of the cycle involves breaking things, often times to an unusable state. Which is what it is now, lots of duct tape holding things together while I flesh them out. So if you want a stable version, stick with the released 1.1 until later in the cycle :)

I'm thrilled about the flexdock functionality, and the macros being on their own tab. It has bugged the hell out of me that I can't make the chat it's own size, and still have all the macros I want.

By the way are macros saved to a file somewhere? Can I send them to friends?

While you are adding flexdoc stuff and macros to their own tab. Would it possible to let the user make more macro tabs as wanted and then give them names for the tabs? Like "combat" "magic" stuff like that?

They are actually stored in your registry (yuck). There's a tracker to make an Export option where you can selectively export stuff, one of which will be the macros.

I can add a tracker for it. It won't be immediate, but potentially before the end of 1.2

UPDATE:

I've added what I'm calling "topology" tools, basically the paint tools (rectangel and poly for now) that let you paint vision blocking sections directly on the map.

Which adds another 2 buttons to the toolbar. Yuck.

So I put in the collapsed toobar that we talked about in late 1.1. It'll be in the next build (coming RSN) and I'll be interested to hear your opinions about it.

Heh, definitely. I'm planning a build this weekend.

The new release will also include the dynamic fow work I've been doing. Right now it supports round vision, and conic vision (that follows your facing), tonight I"ll put in the blocky d20 vision. Then polish it up a bit more and make a dev build this weekend.

Next feature will be textured paint while you guys play with and submit feedback on the fow stuff

Note that for the next several dev builds, things are not going to be very stable, just keep that in mind before committing to run a session with this version of the dev build, you'll want to play test it first ;)
