MapTool 1.1 Development progress

Post by trevor »

There are currently two features added to the 1.1 development code:

- Full screen
- Hexes

I've added a grid type drop down on the New Map dialog, the options are Square and Hex. As of now, the only functionality supported in Hex mode is the overlay. The tokens will be sized sufficiently to fit inside a hex cell. The cell location shows up in the status bar when you move the mouse. But that's about it right now. Snap to grid is currently disabled. No pathing, no measuring, no templates.

Full screen mode is very minimal (no pop-in panels yet), but should make the projector style people happy :)

I'm still planning a build tmrw (Tuesday) so you guys can start messing with these features and start providing feedback.

K, started implementing facing. I've added the property to the tokens, and have it rendering a simple line in the direction of the facing.

Next I'll add a tool that can set the facing of all the selected tokens, by selecting the tokens, right click->Set Facing, which will then make the facing follow your mouse until you click (to commit), or hit ESCAPE to cancel.

I'm expecting to add a property to the grid classes that let the grid determine which angles are "snap" angles for that grid type.

Should have this all done by weeks end.

The facing graphics will have to be improved over time as you guys provide more feedback (right now it's just a red line, yuck).

Hey, would someone with some artistic ability like to create an arrow for use in the facing feature ? Vector graphics format preferrable, but not necessary.

I could make one, but then it will look as sucky as the pointer arrow.

Here's a quick one that should slide around a "256" template...

Trevor,

Could you also implement a feature that rotates the tokens as well for facing? This would be very handy for tokens that are not square in dimension, but rather retangular such as a dragon or a horse. It would also be a cool feature for those of us with tokens that show top down views like real world mini's.

I love the app so far, but I would really love to have this feature.

Thanks,

Crow

I second the request! :D

Rotation in 30 and 60 deg increments for hex grids plus 45 and 90 for square would be nice.

Like Crow I would prefer to use top-down tokens.

The first step is supporting non-square tokens. There's a tracker in for that already, I'll bump up the priority :)

Facing is coming along nicely. It's still just a red line, and right now there aren't any increments, it's just free rotate.

I'm targetting a Tuesday development release so you guys can start banging on it.

A few posts up you requested an arrow, so I whipped one up... guess you missed it :(

Am I on the right track... ? Let me know what you need and I'll be glad to help :)

Token facing indicators and token rotation would go hand in hand...
It would also make Maptool useful for Wargames...

Squadleader anyone :)
