And 1.2 begins !

Post by trevor »

Mmmmm the sweet, sweet feeling of freedom and freshness when starting out development on a new version.

Without a worry or care about breaking things horrifically.

Which I plan to do: time to whip out the hammer and start breaking things that have been bugging me for a while, Mwahahahaha !

UPDATE: Actually I decided to very first attack something that has been complained about since the inception: left panel sizing.

Yes, it sucks.

Thinking ahead, we want to allow multiple views, so it we'll need a more generic layout mechanism.

There are also people who want to have the chat in different places, or may not be interested in the connections list taking up screen space.

So I am currently investigating using this:

https://flexdock.dev.java.net/

docking framework as the main layout mechanism for MapTool. Note this would allow actually pulling panels off the main window and moving them around.

Start up the web demo on the above url, and select the ViewDemo to get an idea of what I'm thinking of.

Perfect

It couldn't be anymore perfect from a user perspective.

That took me a grand total of 2 seconds to figure out.

Very neat.

One question: If you split off a pane into it's own window by dragging it out of the main window, is it possible to then put it back where it came from? Or close it?

re: tool consilidation

follow the path of photoshop, and group all like icons into one... basically, you'd cut down to... 1 FoW icon, 1 template icon.. and i cant think of what else might be groupable right now
