Looking for a forest with road

Post by voodoo »

I intend to set up an ambush and need a road in a forest setting.
Dorpond did a nice jungle one a while ago, but it had a dragin in the middle (and palm trees are not the usual vegetation in my campaign).
Thelevitator did a great forest campaign (thanks a million for it, I will use and reuse it again, it it the kind of map that can be a lifesaver) but it has no road on it and I'm not too good at stamping (takes me ages to find the images to stamp and when I put it on a map, it looks more like the frankeinstein monster than one of dorpond's creations).

Thanks in advance if you can find something for me.
(and I think it would be VERY useful to have a place where all generic maps could be stored and used at a moment's notice instead of having to go through the functional but not too user-friendly gallery)

What kind of road do you want - dirt track, or cobbled highway?

Did you look at my roads that I posted a long while ago?

Just stamp down your own trees :)
Control C & Control V are your friends - just select a bunch of them that you dropped and paste a bunch of them at a time. :)

Okay, I cobbled one together. I've uploaded it as a jpg, rather than a campaign file as you mentioned that you didn't like using stamps. It's tile-able too (though there are a few defects - it's my first attempt at making tiles), however it's 1000x1000 so should be easily big enough for a decent encounter all on its own.

The trees and textures are all from rpgmapshare and I think most of them are directly from SteelRat himself.

<edit> Rotated and recoloured some of the trees to deal with blatant repetition.

Hey, thanks for the plug. You should probably rotate copied trees though, so they don't all look exactly the same.

As a quick reminder, it's as easy as selecting the token, and SHIFT-mouse wheel (hold CTRL too to have free rotate)

Yes, I know. I threw it together in Gimp where rotating is a little (only a little) more complicated.

Got bored at work so I fixed the trees and a few of the tiling defects. Shout if people want anything else changed (I found some horrible bugs in my code and I'm looking for excuses to avoid fixing them).

If you are looking for distractions, how about some soft shadows just under the trees to give them some height

Very nice Torstan! I like it very much!

I will defnately use this during game. It is nice to have variety when it comes to stuff like this. I don't want to bore the players will my same road all the time ;)

Thanks for sharing! :)

a lot of these look like my older trees. I have newer ones with separate shadow objects, which makes it easy to do tree shadows right within MT. Just browse through here: http://rpgmapshare.com/index.php?q=gall ... temId=2414

As trevor mentioned, the forest really needs some shadows and the flat looking trees were bugging me so I decided to put in a little more effort. Here's the result.

I've been having fun with bump maps in gimp. They are really handy.

Glad this is useful to people.
