okay, here's a question.

If Square Vision in a hex grid looks like this:

And Square Vision in an isometric grid looks like this:
isoSqr.jpg

What should Square Vision look like on an isometric hex grid?

Hex grid seems off. Check this out. This shows both kinds of hexes. One with flat side up and other with pointy side up. Your iso hex has a different shape which may be the issue. It'll look more like a rhombus than a diamond.

Well again, its a choice of how do you represent the map. In the same way there is a choice between real isometric and "2:1" isometric, there seems to be a choice in isometric hex styles.

I was thinking Maptool users would probably be more interested in This Sort of Thing, maps by Torstan, I think.

I am not sure how easy it would be to use and play on a hex grid that was rotated as well as foreshortened.

What do people think?

I see. That's more of a squished square. So, the square vision would be rectangular. Works for me. I was changing the hex dimensions and the vision, lights and all that doesn't change. It assumes the hex is a standard hex rather than squished or pinched. So the distances are incorrect. Also, there's some weird adjustment thing going on with the 2nd value for hex dimensions. If I put 200, it changes it to ~140. Also, if I change the first value with the second value at a different ratio, it slowly change back to original ratio.

Hmm. I think I am going to ignore Hexes for the time being ;)

There are two things I want to continue to develop for the Isometric maps, isometric hex map and effect templates that work on all grids. However I think I will work on those as separate things, which means I think this is ready to submit to the trunk.

Hurrah! :)

Congrats on getting this into the build. I haven't played with it yet but it's gotten a good remark to two from the community.
