Java 8 + Maptool 1.4.0.0 : which java exe to assoicate?

Post by emirikol »

I cannot seem to get 1.4.0.0 launched.

Not sure if I'm associating the correct "open with" java exe.

I've attempted to open both the Launcher.jar and Maptool.jar with:
Java.exe
Javacpl.exe
javaw.exe
javaws.exe

The Javaws is the only one that goes anywhere and it gives me this:
"Unable to launch the application."

It has been a couple years (and windows editions) since I've attempted to run maptool. What am I missing?

Currently running Windows8 upgraded to Windows10. 64 bit.

Thanks for the help,

Jay

I can't even get version b91 to run. Is Java8 too high of a version?

Looks like a buggy install of java. I run w10 x64 with java 8 no problem. I would suggest that you uninstall java completely, look for the 64 edition(which is not default) and install that one

I agree with Wolph.

If Java has been installed correctly you shouldn't have to associate the jar file with a specific .exe, it should already have been done.

In the worst case you should see something like "Java(TM) Platform SE binary" in the list of possible programmes to associate the .jar files. If not, you should probably re-install.

Ok found the solution.

Reinstallation didn't work at all. Tried numerous methods. Finally looked at the Microsoft forums and they recommended "JARFIX.EXE." It worked instantly. Now maptool is running.

Here's the Jarfix.Exe file:

I'm running windows 8 and I can't launch maptools. I can get the launch to open, but not actual maptools. I've already tried everything suggested in this thread and maptools will either flash a brief error message or do nothing at all. Any help would be much appreciated.

You may want to try and reinstalling MapTool 1.4. Do the manual download, extract the files to a new folder and try the launcher again. What version and type of java do you have installed? Is it the only version of java?

<--- Been doing this awhile.

I really don't know how it happens but sometimes the MapTool gets bugged and needs to be reinstalled.
