Bug: Group and Encounter files lost on shutdown

Post by Steel Rat »

Had to shutdown my PC today while MT and IT were running, and couldn't shut them down properly. MT recovered fine, but IT will now not load, and the Group and Encounter files that were last open are now zero-length files.

Forgot to mention I'm using B17.

Are you getting any exceptions in the console? I don't know why it modified your group and encounter files since they are only read when you start IT or open the file. Were you asked to save the files during the shutdown? I'll take a look at the code and see if I can figure out what happened.

I didn't have a chance to look at the console, so can't tell you if there were errors.

It did ask if I wanted to save, and I said no, since both the Group and Encounter files had been saved previously, no changes had been made during the session in question.

I was running IT from a network drive, and the encounter and group files were on another network drive.

Are you getting an exception when you try to restart IT?

No, the splash screen would just sit there forever. I renamed the zero-byte encounter and group files it was trying to open, and it loaded fine. So the not loading was an issue with the target files being empty.

I was looking at the code trying to figure out what the problem was and I found out that I made some changes for this problem awhile back. I think in build 18, but I'm not sure. I also added some extra code that made sure all the files are closed, which I think was the problem with them going to 0 in the first place. I'm not positive on that though. Almost all of the changes after build 17 are bug fixes so it shouldn't be too difficult to upgrade.

I'll upgrade and hope something doesn't happen again.
