[1.3b76] java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out

Post by WhiteDrag0n »

Hello. I have a problem that I have tried everything I can think of to fix. Me and my friends were playing my campaign in maptools. It was working fine, until last week when when my players tried to connect they received this message "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect" and couldn't connect to my server.
1. Players cannot connect to my maptools server. Receive the message "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect"
2. My problem is most like this postand is related to the number 4 in the diagnosis guide in the network guide.
3. We tried to connect to servers created by different peoples servers under different stack sizes and stacks. I cleared my Java cache and tried connecting without firewalls on, on all people involved. I am operating on 64bit windows Vista over a wireless router. The other people involved are operating on various systems online. We are not using UPnP. We even tried previous versions of maptools and the same error kept coming up. This makes me think it is a networking or Java problem.
4. I really don't have any idea what to do... sorry
5. I can provide anything if you need it.
I apologize if this isn't the forum for this sort of thing I'm new to the forums. I'm not to net savy, but really like maptools and want to use my super cool maps I created again. Got any ideas?

Welcome to the forums and thank you for the detailed diagnosis.

If it was working for all and then stopped working for all then something changed on your end.

Did you verify that your PC still has the same IP address? If you are not seeing connected methods when the clients try to connect then they aren't getting past your router.

First thing to do is power-cycle the router. Unplug it. Wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in. Once powered up log in to it and check your settings for port forwarding. Make sure the IP address being forwarded to matches your PC. If so, start MT and start a server. Then open your browser and go to www.canyouseeme.org and have it scan the MT port.

Fantastic! Your fix worked, and now i've set up a dedicated port for maptools so it shouldn't happen again... unless the power goes out. Thank you!

If you saved your router settings they should come back when the router reboots.

The only issue would be if your computer's IP address changes. You can avoid that using something called "static DHCP", although I suppose your router might call it something else. Basically, it's the same as your router works now (when the computer needs an IP address, it asks the router -- that's DHCP) except that the router will always respond with the same address! That way your port forwarding always works.

However, all of the above is why the Networking FAQ recommends using UPNP if your router supports it.

Were getting the same "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out" error, I've read about everything I can find and cant get this to work. I've got windows 10, Maptool 1.4.1.7, were trying to connect with a friend that moved to Washington. I set up another laptop at home using a different wifi than mine and i'm still getting the error, we've tried turning all the firewalls off. So now what?

O I should have added if I use the port finder you suggested above it cant see me unless I use 80, then the person connecting gets the message "Could not load campaign. com.cucho.hessian.io.hessianprotocolexception: unknown code for readobject at 0X48 (H)"
