Area templates on Hex map?
Hi, so I just noticed that the included area templates, when used on a hex map, still work "as if" on a square grid.
Any tips on setting up templates/etc for use on hex maps ?

Re: Area templates on Hex map?
Your best bet may to just create custom object tokens for the various blasts needed like, something like this http://i.stack.imgur.com/SMYiM.png
And just copy paste them from a stored map (can macro it for better results). The grid and isometric maps need some loving...

I just use auras. They're prettier and more flexible. Either every square/hex touched is hit or maybe the ones that aren't completely or majority covered get half damage or a bonus.
Re: Area templates on Hex map?
that's fine for explosions and circular effects, but doesn't help for conesmetatheurgist wrote:I just use auras. They're prettier and more flexible. Either every square/hex touched is hit or maybe the ones that aren't completely or majority covered get half damage or a bonus.
That's the main one that needs help ...
line and circular are easy ..

I'll fiddle with that.

You can do cones with auras. And you can point them with token facing. It's perfect for the job.Ditto wrote:that's fine for explosions and circular effects, but doesn't help for conesmetatheurgist wrote:I just use auras. They're prettier and more flexible. Re: Area templates on Hex map?
Ok, perhaps I can ask you to post your cone/aura definitions? I can't get mine to work.
I keep getting a cone + circle overlap and not sure why.
Here's the definition I'm using:
Cone 5 (yellow): aura cone arc=60 5.5#d8d800

Cone 10: aura cone arc=30 10.5#0000ff
Cone 20: aura cone arc=30 20.5#0000ff
Cone 30: aura cone arc=30 30.5#0000ff
Killzone1: aura cone arc=45 120.5#00ff00
Killzone2: aura cone arc=45 120.5#ff0000
Killzone3: aura cone arc=45 120.5#0000ff
Killzone4: aura cone arc=45 120.5#ffff00
Killzone5: aura cone arc=45 120.5#00ffff
These are the one in my latest game. Auras to have a tendency to light the footprint of the token issuing it, though in my case it's a square and not a circle. It can sometimes be offset in a funny way.

Re: Area templates on Hex map?
Sorry, I'm not getting it.
I tried your auras and same thing ..
I can see the cone .. but I also get a 2 hex radius circle around my token as well.
I've tried turning of Sight on the token .. no effect.
I've tried changing the default sight size in campaign settings to 1 ... no effect.
O.o

There was an aura bug in Mt. Which might be the issue. Which version are you using?

I was beginning to wonder if that was the case ..wolph42 wrote:There was an aura bug in Mt. Which might be the issue. Which version are you using?

Re: Area templates on Hex map?
My group is still on 1.3.b89, so I don't think that's the problem. This is what I see using a grid and both types of hex map.
Have you tried it with a brand new campaign file?
Spoiler
Re: Area templates on Hex map?
well, going up to 1.4.0.5 definitely "fixed" it for me .. so yeah, might be some other thing at work, but the newer version fixed it ...metatheurgist wrote:My group is still on 1.3.b89, so I don't think that's the problem. This is what I see using a grid and both types of hex map.

(still wish there was better support for hexes .. but I understand that's not easy, and not in high demand .. so I'll sit here and sulk all quiet like ... )
Re: Area templates on Hex map?
the bug concerns pixels per square settings, if you leave those untouched you have no issue. IF however you change those then the 'personal' bubble will grow or shrink (in the bugged version).metatheurgist wrote:My group is still on 1.3.b89, so I don't think that's the problem.
