Idea: Same as former issue: the new mt is more strict in error checking. previously it did have an error but ignored it, now it stops. So morebug fixing for me. I'll post an update when fixed.

A LOT of thanks though for the thorough error reports, that helps a lot!!

Ok now that i made the whole starting adventure for RT and we tried to play.

So my colleagues always geht the stack overflow error when they connect to my server.
(Start Settings for ALL of us are: 1024,64,3 -all use Map Tool 1.4.0.5!)

My next idea: my Campgain maps are to big? - so i:

1)Restart my PC
2)Start Map Tool 1.4.0.5
3)open the "default" W40k-RPG_FW_Wolph42.cmpgn (leave everything on default)
4)Start Server
5)guys try to connect (in chat i see they connected)
-> All get the Stack overflow error

Any idea?

are you *sure* that they are running the launcher??

Stack overflow has nothing to do with maps and everything with macro OR output to chat.
What they can try is up the stack to something ridiculous as stack=10 and see what happens.

I myself always use: stack = 4 and so far that has been enough. I am interested in their log files though!! (they're in the .maptool dir). Make sure that it (the log.txt) has been deleted, then start maptool and after the error, send me the log.

Better is to install java x64 (assuming they have windows x64 installed). In that case use
max: 2048
stack: 4

Hi there,
I've really loved your framework since I started using it years ago. During the last year I have been unable to use it since it keeps coughing up the same error at me. I am on Windows 10, am using MapTool 1.4.0.5, have installed Java RE 8u111 x64, set MAXMEM=1500, STACKSIZE=8, and am still encountering the same error.

Basically, whenever I do pretty much *anything* from trying to fire a weapon, save an alteration to attributes, skills, or talents, Java keeps spewing the Stack Overflow error.
Looking in the log file, I get this :

Code: Select all

2016-11-27 11:25:20,718 [swing.MapToolEventQueue:38] ERROR - java.lang.StackOverflowError
java.lang.StackOverflowError
	at java.util.regex.Pattern$GroupTail.match(Unknown Source)

	at java.util.regex.Pattern$CharProperty.match(Unknown Source)
	at java.util.regex.Pattern$Branch.match(Unknown Source)
... and repeated on, and on, and on.
Any and all assistance that could be provided to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help thus far. Sadly I need it again.
One of the other problems I had before the whole "stack overflow" issue has cropped up again, even though I'm using the 1.4.1.6 dev version.
Every now and then I'd use the framework and all of a sudden I would get an endless loop of alert windows, telling me to input a value for "" (nothing), as seen here.Image
This of course means I have to use Task Manager to shut down Java/MapTool.
In this instance, I went to a map with the intent of doing a Cut/Paste of a Land Speeder Storm and another token. I selected the Land Speeder, and just as I depressed the CTRL key, I got the endless loop of alerts.
Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Oky doky,
YOu can find the campaign file here http://eternity-media.net/Deathwatch.cmpgn
If you open the Map "Hungry For Death" and try doing a Cut/Paste on the Landspeeder Storm and the Space Marine Bike that should be on that map, you should get the issue. I've also gotten it whilst doing other random things, so play around with it and see what happens.
Thanks for your help,
~M@

Here's a fix of your campaign (I hope).:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mszkof3tm3hwc ... cmpgn?dl=0

The issue lies with the distance calculation macro (which is in the stat sheet, on mouse over). What I don't understand is WHY it goes bonkers. The problem happens when you select a vehicle and hover over another token. At that point the distance calc kicks in and starts calculating the distance between the two tokens. Somehow it also accesses the stat sheet of the other token and makes a reference to SB (or "" ?!) and if that does not exit in the stat sheet you get the effect you noticed.

What I did is clear the 'distance' macro on lib:DH so when its referenced it doesn't do anything. For that reason that functionality is not available for now until I figure out what's going on cause its really really weird.

Coolz.
I certainly don't get the endless alert windows now.
However I do get a stack overflow whenever I try and use the Embarkation function on the vehicles.
