You could also look in this stickied thread in the Links and External Resources forum for a bunch of stuff users have found. :)

When will the FAQ again be visible on the MapTool page? Currently clicking "Documentation > FAQ" reveals the word "faq". I'd love to read the FAQ before just starting in asking a bunch of dumb newbie questions, but I may have no choice if I can't find documentation on anything except Macros.

Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be to review Brad's video tutorials.

http://www.rptoolstutorials.net/

Missing details on some of the latest feature additions but covers all the basics of using MT quite thoroughly.

My specific question at the moment is in reaction to one of Brad's video tutorials. :-)

At about 6:55 of the Vision and Light tutorial, Brad covers using Ctrl-I to expose Fog of War for the areas the player can currently see, and I'm having no problems recreating that. He does throw out the offhand remark, "and the players can do this too if you give them that option." My GM very much does not want to have to hit Ctrl-I or Ctrl-P or Shift-Ctrl-O every two seconds to keep the map updated. When we had him connect as a Player to my server, he was able to move his token around, but there was no "Expose" menu option for him.

Do you know how to put this ability into the hands of the players? Thanks in advance!

When starting the server, the host has to check the box for "Players Can Reveal Vision"

That's all there is to it.

Excellent! I'll definitely be looking forward to the documentation being back online, but I appreciate the quick help here in the meantime!

So what happened to all the FAQs? The links with "doku" in the url all return the rptools home page. There is no FAQ int the Tools menu anymore. Is this because things have changed so much that the FAQs are now mostly obsolete and the videos are the way to go?

I really like the videos, but I can't really watch them at work, whereas with the FAQs I can check them out quickly from time to time. I think there is room for both. But I understand if this is a question of time and resources.

Thanks!

I'm new to Maptool and I think my problem is typical for new users and should probably be included in the FAQ so I post it here:

Where can I find (more) free downloads of artpacks with textures, objects, creatures, vegetation etc. for Maptool?

By searching around I found these two interesting sources:

http://www.gmsapprentice.com
-> after registration, there is "The CSUAC" with a lot of nice artpacks from Dundjinni, Fractal Mapper 8 and Campaign Cartographer (themes include creatures, vegetation, structures, vehicles etc. - unfortunately no ground-textures there, yet)

http://www.dundjinni.com/art/user_art.asp
-> some user-created artpacks with creatures, textures etc.

Please post more...

Did you view the tutorials, the Links and resources forum, and the RPTools.net gallery?

Get your Dropbox 2GB via my referral link, and as a bonus, I get an extra 250 MB of space. Even if you don't don't use my link, I still enthusiastically recommend Dropbox..

Suggestion for FAQ:

Add how to change the language. I read that there are some different languages availible but I did not find anything how to change the language.

How do the new 'FOW views' options work?

Sorry I've been gone for about 10 versions.

Here are two videos that give a run down. Note that Individual FOW stuff ONLY works when the server is started. So, if you reveal an area prior to starting a server, the tokens will NOT get that revealed information automatically when the server is started.

This is exactly what I needed. Sorry I wasn't able to locate these videos on my own initiative. I now understand how the individual FOW's work. Impressive!! Thanks jfrazierjr!

I have another question, whether it should count as an faq is up for debate:

How does one make default settings for starting a server? For instance, I would like the start server dialog to default to a ONE-ONE-ONE grid setup, but it always reverts back to a ONE-TWO-ONE grid whenever I close out of the program and come back in.

Thanks!

Hmmm that should not be... It should save your current preferences when you start a server(or so I thought). Also, what is you preference setting on? This is the default value used to populate this drop down...

Preferences fixed that one. I guess I was confused when I saw that some things were saving (the individual FOW's), and others were not (The movement metric and tooltips for some reason).
