Re: Current Stability: where does it rank?

Most of my stability problems crop up when DM's force me to use some half-arsed framework I don't have any interest in using.

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

At the end of the day, Brigand plays a very different kind of RPG through MT than many of us do. One without any voice and/or video. So it comes as no surprise that she is going to be more sensitive to chat having very specific functionality. And to that I say MT should absolutely continue to accom...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

Brigand, this is really quite silly. The proposed change would not cause private communication to not be private -- instead, it would create an option for DMs to disallow private communication on Maptool, replacing it with non-private communication. Given that there are a billion other ways to priv...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

I'll refrain from repeating all of the other perfectly good reasons for wanting IC, OOC, and a GM switch to monitor ALL. It's a given that my players have a choice about whether or not they want to be in the game if they don't like my rules and the way I run my game. There is no violation of privac...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

Regardless, private communication is just that. Private. Nosy GM's can go frak themselves. So, you don't see the logic of having IC whisper for situations like those I described above? (Poltergheist piggybacks and Demigod Dickheads). If you have an item you disagree with, one should use logic to de...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

They're going to meta-game whether or not their whispers are private. If they aren't, they'll just use another chat program. If that's the case, why object to the OPTION of GM monitoring whispers with PLAYER NOTIFICATION if it's enabled? The words in all caps are so because they are the important p...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

Using /w shouldn't change based on whether or not you have a token impersonated. Myself and the players I've gamed with, never not impersonate a token. Adding this would just create confusion and unnecessary and pointless clicking and impersonationg and de-impersonating.

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

On the other hand, private chatting between players easily creates opportunities for 'meta-gaming' not easily analogous to situations in a face-to-face game. They're going to meta-game whether or not their whispers are private. If they aren't, they'll just use another chat program. Would you object...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

Again, if the ability for a GM to monitor whispers goes into MapTool... I will not use it and I will promote any other vtt program out there over MapTool. There is absolutely no reason at all for a players privacy to be violated because some GM has their knickers in a twist. In a face to face game, ...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

Private communication should always be private. Period. And you keep neglecting to acknowledge the basic principle that a whisper IN CHARACTER is not private in a game. Nor do you address the multitude of other concerns raised here by a number of people. But, I expected no less. The GM doesn't need...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

The whisper function is for players, not characters. The primary purpose of MT is to facilitate games. RPG's in particular. And, as such, the chat window is there more for the game in progress than for some player's off-topic chatting. Where you think the tool should be built to facilitate idle pri...

Re: Programming question - macro.return

I just use UDF's and make them all use the same variable scope. It's much easier than passing variables back and forth with macro.args and macro.return.

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

The whisper function is for players, not characters. As I said, if the privacy of private communication is ever violated because some GM gets their panties in a twist, I will stop using MapTool and I will make sure to let others know not to use it as well. Just out of principle, even though there ar...

Re: GM "monitoring" of Whispers

If this gets implemented, I will stop using MapTool and tell everyone to stop using it. Period. The DM does not need access to private conversations between two players. Ever. If the DM needs to know something, the players can provide that info themselves. The DM does not need and should not ever ha...
