Re: Special dice systems

Another counting sets (e.g., you roll 6d10 and you end up with three 5's, two 1's, and a 4)--like what's used by One Roll Engine games. I can think of at least 3 games that use that, although none are "big names." Just remember that once you start this, it's easy to find yourself in a rabb...

I'm sorry, I don't remember how that's supposed to work.

Re: MapTool: Refined

Does anyone know a source for the rolling dice algorithms? I assume they're vector graphics. I've been looking around with no luck. Surely someone open-sourced those. For Roll20, they use the Physijs library for dice physics and ThreeJS for 3D graphics (one is a plugin to the other); the dice graph...

Re: MapTool: Refined

Agreed. I would consider "Ease of Use" to be one of the killer features. Maptool has a significant hurdle for the first time user that makes quickly jumping in, difficult and daunting. As long as that is true, Maptool will lose potential users to the competition. Its funny you mentioned a...

Re: MapTool: Refined

Some other stuff that VTTs have that MapTool doesn't: Roll20 has: a marketplace of free (and paid) professional art, subscription levels if you so desire (which brings extra features -- I do consider it a weakness however that dynamic lighting is only available to paying subscribers); tablet and mob...

Re: MapTool: Refined

… but without saying "Here's what MT does better than the rest ," I think few people will care. Mostly true except I think people would be interested in what it can do others can't, if they're not very interested in what it can do better. As reactions to changes in 2.0 pointed it out, peo...

Re: MapTool: Refined

That's more or less what I was trying to say -- the current "proposals" (for lack of a better word) preach to the choir. Now, in this case the choir may be enough people to fund something, but without saying "Here's what MT does better than the rest ," I think few people will care.

Re: MapTool: Refined

Tabletopforge also asked for 5k and pulled in about 45k. Ironically, Tabletop Forge was absorbed by Roll20 in January. But yes, both of those had modest goals that they subsequently smashed in their funding drives; it's always a possibility. I certainly think MapTool can do it, and I wouldn't have ...

Re: MapTool: Refined

I guess the bottom line for me is that personally, I wouldn't put money toward any further work on 1.3 (by you, me, Azhrei, anybody). I mean, some of the things you listed as examples are great, but they're also things I'd rather just wait for "MapTool Next" to have, and would feel better...

Re: MapTool: Refined

@Rumble: The thing there is active development under the current environment is volunteer-based. While it has done tremendous work over the years, it has taken years to get to this point. I have no doubt the key members of the official development team have more lucrative means of personal financin...

Re: MapTool: Refined

I've been thinking about this at more length, and in light of what wolph was talking about, I'm beginning to lean toward the idea that the effort put into this fork would be better spent doing active development on the 1.4 version -- that is, I don't object to the idea of looking for funding (via cr...

Re: MapTool: Refined

I have to reserve judgment on it until I know what the refinements are, but I would expect a pretty significant revamp of the product, if we're talking about full-time development on it. For the latter context, alone, I'm confident I can drive success to something akin to Roll20's; with the help of ...

Re: A virtual table top google trend analysis.

If I had to guess, it's more due to Roll20's current hotness, rather than MapTool's development doldrum. They've got like 140,000 users, too, so I think there's probably a word-of-mouth effect going on there too, plus an endorsement in the new "Gygax" magazine (or whatever it's called), wh...

Re: A virtual table top google trend analysis.

One thing to note is that Tabletop Forge got absorbed by Roll20 (or something like that; they have merged in some way); so the dropoff there may just be because it folded into Roll20.

Re: Help running a macro from a "toolbar"

Been a while, but IIRC since FRAME is a roll option, it could have its output suppressed by an H tag, e.g.

Code: Select all

[h,frame(....
which would suppress output. I'd check the frame call first, to see if it's hidden overall.
