Re: MT and linux

I put the maptool file in the root of my home user folder, rename the .sh file to map.sh. Then I open a terminal and run the command "sh map.sh". This is after making the file executable. I use ubuntu 9.4

I am not so sure KDE is faster than Gnome. KDE4 is in some ways like Vista in that it is for faster systems. Xbuntu is far better on slower systems. But KDE 3.5 is very good.

Re: MT 1.3b34 + Sun Java 6 + Kubuntu 8.10 + EeePC 1000 = slo

I'm running Maptool 1.3b34 on my EeePC 1000 laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Atom, 2 GB RAM), and performance is pretty slow. Mouse movement (wireless Logitech mouse) lags a lot, so does drawing templates, scrolling, zooming, etc. I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.1.2, with the latest Sun Java from their webs...

I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 with restricted extras (installs java), compiz, and other stuff. With this new version Maptools runs fine. I was not sure if it would run with compiz running but it did.

You can install Ubuntu as a program in windows. Run the CD from with in windows and it will launch the Ubuntu installer. This will not mess up windows and you can uninstall it if you don't like it. Also you can try Kubuntu as it is more windows like. Noel Vh. I was aware of that.. my thinking was t...

I used to dual boot but haven't done Linux for a while. I kept coming up with problems trying to get it to do what I needed. I'm in Korea and I needed to get it to switch back in forth between English and Korean as well as be able to deal with the Korean net sites. Korean net sites are all very exp...

the one reason I looked into Maptool is for Miniature war gaming. It is my hope to run some fantasy games based on ChipCo's fantasy rules, and Beamstrike 15mm scifi miniature game.

I have been working on properties for both rule sets, but have not had much time to get is going.

Thanks, I was just experimenting with the Live CD to see if I could run MapTool without any installs (for a lark mostly). The windows install on the box that I was playing on has gone sour, so I think I will install Ubuntu on that and play around... I for one use Kubuntu as it is more windows like,...

Well today I got Maptool to run on my PendriveLinux from pendrivelinux.com. I had to install java 1.6 but and then reboot but it works.

I run PDL with the root account (a big no no), but I don't have any real data on it. I use PDL to test out hard ware on machines.

I run Kubuntu 8.04 and have it running compiz. I use a tool called compiz switcher to turn off compiz before I run map tool. I also have the latest version of Java I think 6 u7 from the java web page. It took some work to get it installed but it work just fine. I hope it works out for you. Noel Vh
