Using Maptool with D&D Beyond?
My players and I are finally gearing up to switch from 4th to 5th edition, and are mulling over our VTT options. So I'd like to know what, if any, success anyone has had with importing D&D Beyond content (characters and monsters) into Maptool. Apologies if this question has already been answered...

Re: Sad Day...
And today, it functions the same way. You don't have to know how to build (or use) the "Bag of Tricks" to use MT. It's just an option. Exactly. There's as much or as little as you want to use. But newcomers are usually better off sticking with the basics until they're ready to start pokin...

Re: Sad Day...
Lots of people have a similar experience when they first try an use Maptool. Was this his/your first use? Sometimes people try and jump into using too much of the functionality in one go and can't make it work without creating headaches. This is why I always recommend people start out using Maptool...

Re: Trying to gauge interest in new battlemap-making softwar
I just watched the intro video and have been reading some of the comments. This looks absolutely amazing, heruca. I particularly like what seems to be an easy, intuitive method of generating windy dungeons with randomized tile sets. I can't wait to use MapForge!

Re: Trying to gauge interest in new battlemap-making softwar
Can't speak for anyone else, but I'd be hugely interested in your mapping software. I was a loyal Dundjinni user until it turned into abandonware, and would gladly give yours a try. Your description of mapping software that stitches existing maps into something cohesive with customization options is...

Port forwarding with Airport Extreme on Mac OS X El Capitan
I've been trying this whole evening to get port forwarding going, to no avail. I'm using an Airport Extreme base station and a Mac running OS X El Capitan. Had a player in my campaign try to connect to maptool three times without success. I have followed all the online instructions for modifying my ...

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
First test done. I had a second computer on my LAN connect to the server with the repository. Nothing wrong with connection speed, every map took well under a minute to load (seconds for the smaller ones). Then I deleted the asset cache on the second computer, removed the reference to the repository...

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
Yeah, I can access hidden folders via the Go To Folder option in the Finder. Not a problem. I used to know where to enable 'show hidden folders' in Mac OS, but have forgotten.

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
Okay, so I deleted my asset cache, reloaded Maptool, loaded each map, and then checked the assetcache directory. My biggest files are mostly the maps, with the largest being the one from last session (2 MB). I have a handful of overly large (~500k) token images (some furniture in another map, a coup...

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
Never mind, I found the directory in my home folder. Not visible even in Terminal, but accessible using cd command. Thanks. I'll try out your suggestions.

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
When you use Maptool and close it and open again... you don't have to re-arrange your window positions, etc... this is possible because Maptool creates a directory with some stuff in it including the "default" images(all the textures, cards, a few tokens, a few overlays, etc... what you s...

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
more likely, poorly chosen images and/or badly placed VBL (if you are using Vision blocking). I am indeed using vision blocking, but am always careful to draw a solid VBL square, before hollowing out areas. As for my images, it is quite possible I am choosing poorly, but as I said, on the last map ...

Re: Troubleshooting slow load time for maps
One thing my players have noticed: the first map of the night loads faster than subsequent maps, even when nothing is previously cached in Maptool. Might it be a memory leak issue with Maptool?
