Very cool post!! Thanks for sharing this! I've wondered if tokens and backgrounds could interact like this so it's awesome to see. Seems a bit tedious to manually paint sections white then overlay a transparent image though. I'm also curious if there are another solutions. Also, I'd love to see more...

If you check out the Maptool Github, you'll see support for animated gifs is a planned feature. It's a long way off though. It seems it'll be possible after the Maptool 2.0 update. Stay tuned!

I'm not sure what issue you're having or what you're asking. If I add a Tabaxi to my race list, I can choose it in the character creation. I had a similar issue. I think I added two extra spaces after each line to fix it. Try that. Also, don't forget you can use the DDBeyond importer to import monsters AND spells.
