I was just thinking about having a similar improvement earlier today when I was running a game. When I zoomed out, I could not tell what states existed on any creature anymore. The 2nd example given by Aidy Baby seems like a good compromise (with the smaller images) on saving screen space to me.

This thread definitely needs to be Stickied, and maintained. It is a very good overview on the macro functionality of the program.
