Re: Mote Kickstarter: We are going LIVE!

I've seen it from developers over and over. I apologize if what II ultimately brings eventually isn't the same BS thousands of other developers have ultimately delivered while saying the exact same things you have been. I've seen promising looking VTTs being kickstarted and garbage being what they u...

Can you expand on what you mean by that? Am I missing something big that MT is capable of or are these custom code hacks?

Re: Mote Kickstarter: We are going LIVE!

Oh, I agree. So we need the knock list for what we want to do now the figure a way to work out the core for what comes next. BTW, I have some build instructions for MapTool 1.3 I'll post in a bit. Great! I had made some edits to MT several years ago and managed to build with a lot of trial and erro...

Re: Mote Kickstarter: We are going LIVE!

The reason I don't join the MT dev team is because MT is dead technology. It is not the future of VTT. Trying to keep it on life support is not the way to go. It needs a complete rebuild, from the ground up, as a no-download-needed solution for players (web interface). It needs SQL (or noSQL) datab...

Re: Mote Kickstarter: We are going LIVE!

Well, Mote was released. I would say it was total garbage, but it still seems to function as Maptool so it's at least as good as MT. It has a couple of shinies that some people may find useful, which anyone familiar with the MT sourcecode could probably have done in a month of weekends. Oh, and als...

It has a couple of shinies that some people may find useful, which anyone familiar with the MT sourcecode could probably have done in a month of weekends. Oh dear. Where were you all that time, when Maptool seemed to be stuck in development limbo? Please oh please join the dev. team and whip up a n...

Re: Mote Kickstarter: We are going LIVE!

but since you seem to imply that mt is total garbage... I guess your point on this forum is a bit moot. Where did I even remotely imply MT was total garbage? I said that the fact the Mote was little more than minor enhancements to MT was what prevented it from being total garbage. Had someone added...

Re: MapTool 1.4

Edit: To what purpose is the click-through transparency for? Not with the current system, and likely not with Swing; whether snapped-to-grid or unsnapped, the bounds are set with regard to each token image. It's just "easier" (I'm just imagining it in my head) with JavaFX. In order to acc...

Re: MapTool 1.4

 None taken. But a quick search would yield all my "contributions" so far, and I think if you search posts from a name, it'll pull everything up. I wouldn't say it's vapor; maybe sleet ;) You'll also see a part of my delay in "putting it out"; I wanted to see the final vers...

Re: MapTool 1.4

it's been my experience that that's more trouble than it's worth. Open source developers tend to be slow and unreliable and you're generally better off doing it yourself. I have to disagree. I have a framework in development within maptools (warhammer) and I've opened the development for this frame...

Re: MapTool 1.4

Brilliant that three separate programmers all three come up with three different scripting engines the mt 'direly' needs. Upto now the score is Js, Groovy and lua. Oh man, I love LUA :) With that being said, the winning argument for JS is that MapTool's displays are all HTML based (not the swing co...

Re: MapTool 1.4

Actually, I was constantly hearing "It's coming in 1.4" since I first started using MT 7 years ago. Frankly, it's a massive problem. Either start posting some code for 1.4 or just call it dead so some of us who still care about enhancing MT can fork from the existing 1.3 codebase without ...

Wow, has it really been 3 years since we started talking about this. 3 Years too long!! Actually, I was constantly hearing "It's coming in 1.4" since I first started using MT 7 years ago. Frankly, it's a massive problem. Either start posting some code for 1.4 or just call it dead so some ...

Insane Bandwidth Usage

I recently took over DMing for my group. My upload speed though is capped at about 40KB/s. Obviously, it takes a little bit to load maps, but that's not the issue. Even after the maps are loaded, MapTool is still lagging terribly when players move their tokens. I checked the network traffic and MapT...
