He ended up just nuking the campaign and starting over from fresh, and the problem didn't replicate. It was probably a Ubuntu, version, and map-specific problem. You can delete this post.

Yes Please, I would like this. Some of those auto-popup portrait and info windows are very big, ungainly and annoying. If it was a window I could minimize and only look at when wanted, it would be much better (and then size wouldn't be such an issue). Love my dockable windows.
