Re: Love it or Leave it: Current Macro Language

actually i think what i'd like to see in a gradual implementation of javascript and depreciation of MTscript. say in 1.3b70 introduce the ability to run javascripts without access to any of the current objects in MT. That way you can use ajax calls to get info from the web and display it or calculat...

Re: DDi Compendium API and Java Classes?

m This is a godsend for me. Install that extension, disable all others, open the viewer and go to the ddi web site and login like you normally would, you'll be able to see all the information sent and received including cookies and etc. In my experience, scraping sites that require logins usually go...

Re: A MapTool Extension API - Discussion

Honestly I think that's all that's really necessary, bc from there, it's easy to write a simple prog to fetch data from say a website and write it to a file in that dir. That way it's a stand alone app. And if it's exposed to macro script/javascript, each app could have it's own file and a correspon...

Re: A MapTool Extension API - Discussion

Point taken. At the same time though, i'd be willing to wager that those are 90% or better first time users, and that a majority of those are going to be led by someone else. I think if they're comfortable playing rpgs the probably know better than to install random stuff if they don't know what it ...

Re: A MapTool Extension API - Discussion

not sure i really understand the security aspect. I mean if you're not computer savvy, you're probably not going to be using MT, let alone installing extensions and etc. And if someone were going to launch a DDoS, would MT really be the tool of choice? I mean i can see limiting the number of request...

Re: A MapTool Extension API - Discussion

ok, yeah I see. I definitely wouldn't spend too much time building editing tools and such. Basically what i was getting at was that if the files are user editable, that's more likely to attract modders than requiring source code edits or learning a new language (MTscript) to implement something. It ...

Re: Adding "Unofficial" Features

My inclination would be to first sit down with the existing code and learn how it works. Probably make some minor changes to it and see how it reacts. Then you'll want to plot out your plan of attack: what you'll need to change and how. Well, the layout i have in mind is a quarter wheel in the corn...

Adding "Unofficial" Features

I came to MT bc i'm building a multitouch table and needed something with power and flexibility to serve as a face to face battlemap. I know that projector mode is nearly at the top of the wall of features, but that doesn't help me now =) I have an idea in my head of how i'd want the interface to lo...

Re: A MapTool Extension API - Discussion

I think this applies here so i'll go ahead and throw it in. I think an add on/extension/script/etc should be able do do anything a player can do. Can a player move a token? yes, with a few exceptions the add on should also adhere to. Can a player reveal FOW? no, but if he/she moves his token to a lo...

Re: Maptool Concepts: The Next UI, Look, and Feel

I know javascript is pretty much sent as the new scripting language, but i figured i'd throw my two copper in and point out this: m If you use that approach, you can use javascript, python, and just about any other scripting language just as easily as you can implement one. I think opening up the po...
