Re: UPnP Issue

Bingo. The issue was Windows Firewall all along. It seems that it is set up such that if you stop the Firewall service after it comes up then what it actually does is silently block all communication with the laptop. I don't know if this is some defence mechanism built into Windows 7 as this doesn't...

Re: UPnP Issue

DropBox looks great, but surprise, surprise it doesn't work when I'm at work. :(

Going to see if I can configure it to work and also try out my work laptop on a LAN here in the office today to see what I can fix up.

Re: UPnP Issue

DropBox :D Wow. Just went and looked at this. It looks like the perfect solution. I've just installed it on my home PC and am about to install it on my work one too (as I'm at home). Of course it remains to be seen if I can access it at work. It seems I can access it via the Web, which would be goo...

Re: Adding a State - How?

I'm not seeing that behaviour, sorry.

If I start a fresh campaign then I can edit a default state and the Add button enables. But on my existing campaign nothing I can do will enable "Add".

Adding a State - How?

This should be so simple. I'm looking at my Campaign Properties. I open the States tab. But I can't get the "Add" button to enable -so I can't add a new state.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Re: UPnP Issue

Ok, well that pretty much narrows it down. So we are fighting your IT admin. Yes, agreed. As I said in my last post I'm going to try and find out what is blocking it and if there is anything I can do about it. The non-domain account that you log in locally with, does it have local admin rights? I a...

Re: UPnP Issue

That your Win7 PC can't ping your XP box is an issue. Has nothing to do with the firewall on XP. It's some configuration issue on your Win7 PC. It also can't see your router (or XP box) with network discovery which implies that network discovery is still disabled. I'm assuming nothing about this ha...

Re: UPnP Issue

Trying "Winsock Tester" to simplify the tests a bit. It just allows you to listen and connect giving IP addresses and ports - it shows eactly what the problem is - but not how to fix it. If I start XP listening on port 51234 then I can connect to it using Winsock from 7. In fact if I have ...

Re: UPnP Issue

This is the latest: A friend starts a server on the internet (RPTools). Laptop 7 can see it and connect (yay!). I start a server on my local LAN only (no RPTools alias) on Laptop XP. Laptop 7 can't see it but can use Direct Connect with the local IP address to connect (mostly yay! Not a full yay as...

Re: UPnP Issue

Once again, software firewalls giving people grief. Can't stand them. I also would not spend so much time using UPnP. At this point it is just adding more complexity to the problem. Try this just for kicks: 1)Ignore UPnP for now, it is not required, and since you are just testing locally, ignore yo...

Re: UPnP Issue

Back in the office now and my clever friend points out that Windows Firewall was running on XP and that's why ping didn't work from 7 to XP. Doh. Anyway, here at work I popped a version of MT onto my friends PC and we can both connect to one another easily - all LAN based but our two PCs will happil...

Re: UPnP Issue

Hi all, I'm still trying to sort out my windows7 (work) laptop. Here is the situation as it stands: 2 laptops on the home network, well call them XP and 7 as they are running Windows XP and Windows 7. Router is on 192.168.2.1. XP is 192.168.2.2. 7 is 192.168.2.3. For the time being 7 has its Windows...

Re: UPnP Issue

I went in to my router and disabled UPnP. Started up MT, got the usual UPnP error when I tried to start a server using it. So I set up port forwarding. Started a server without UPnP and of course it worked. So then I re-enabled UPnP and started a new server using UPnP. This time it worked. Weird! So...

Re: UPnP Issue

Okay, this is getting weird now. My home laptop, that used to work, has started reporting "UPnP: Port Mapping Failed" when I try and start a server with UPnP enabled. The router definitely supports UPnP as I've been using it for years. I've read the networking guide and am happy with how t...
