DMGenie makes an update.

Post by Big_Mac »

It looks like DMGenie may be like the Phoenix and rising from the ashes. There is an update. I looks legit. have not down loaded it yet. Anyone hear from Janik at all via e-mail.

No. I stopped maintaining that site when several emails to him went unanswered and I could no longer fix the issues with the forum because I didn't have the authority. :(

It would be great if it would come back and could support Pathfinder though!

This is a paste from an e-mail in the GeniesBottle Yahoo Group. It was the response one got when they inquired to the sales e-mail.
[email protected] ✆ to me

Hi,

Last year I was finishing my Ph.D. thesis, looking for a job, and I moved
from Canada to the US; so I put the website on "hold" since I would not
have the time to answer any emails. To be honest, I got pretty demoralized
after putting a lot of work into DMGenie4 and then the 4th edition license
came out with Wizards not allowing any software programs at all.

Now that I've settled and have time again, I have decided to maintain the
program again. I think I'll focus on stability and fixing bugs rather than
new features; and that's why I reduced the price too.

The update is legit; not really any new features but I made sure it ran
under Win7 and Vista. I'm not sure how I can reassure you further - I got
a job at Oak Ridge National Lab and you can find me on their "Find People"
website, does that help?

Cheers,

Janik Zikovsky

Wow, that's great news. DMGenie was one of the few programs I ever spent money on.

MapTool was the other; I donated $50 back when I first started using it around 1.1.b18 or so! And I'm such a cheap bastard that getting money out of me is like getting blood from a turnip! ;)

I realize that Janik may have been busy, but as a moderator of the dmgenie.com forums I expected to at least get an email back when I sent him a message about the forum being infected or had similar issues. That left a bad taste in my mouth but I'm willing to see how things progress over the next 6-12 months and take a look at it again later.

I've almost completely eliminated Windows from my diet. At this point I'm not sure even DMGenie can drag me back...

Im with Azhrei here, I spend most of my gaming cash on books, and Im really hard pressed to spend my hard earned cash on software.... But DM Genie I did buy and so I have a legit key.

Hope Janik puts in support for pathfinder, DMGenie really is a lot more logical to me than say.... PC Gen! :)

Here is to hoping that it continues and grows or at least we get a few updates and lots of (lingering) bug squashing.

We still use it as our main campaign aid (along with Maptools which is beloved by our GM). 8)

Hard to believe its only our 3rd campaign since starting with DM Genie so many years ago.

Oh, and hey to all the peeps from the forums there. I'm not much of a maptool user myself (I just play Rules Lawyer and do all the DM Genie work we need), but as mentioned it has been a mainstay in our campaigns.
