The Master of Serenity - April 3, 2014

Post by tomlib »

In this Session the group found the Center of the Labyrinth and met up with the Master of Serenity and the Oracle. The result was the death of two of the finest people in the world. Evil triumphed again and the group moved on to the Cathedral of Aroden Made Manifest.

Way of the Wicked.

In this Session of Way of the Wicked the group finally entered the Cathedral of Aroden Made Manifest and began to search it for the mysterious Ara Mathra. The creature barricaded himself behind an impenetrable blaze and they must now figure out how to get past the inferno.

Now that we're doing smaller battles we're buzzing right along. We had five good sized fights in the session. MapTool makes things so easy. The Cathedral itself is a mass of Vision Blocking Lines and this does tend to slow-down MapTool when using Individual Fog-of-War. I try to break larger maps into smaller maps to combat this issue but I forgot to do it on this one so it was a little annoying.

The group continued their exploration of the Cathedral of Aroden Made Manifest and encountered the powerful Lord-Abbot in the process of using the bones of Saint Iomedae to raise the spirits of the place. We had two battles and a quite a bit of discussing and even some rather brutal torture. Some of the group has at least embraced the path of evil. It was a good Session of Way of the Wicked.

With this Session came the end of Tears of the Blessed and we reached the half-way point of Way of the Wicked.

Great and merciful Ara Mathra was defeated and the Cathedral of Aroden Made Manifest extinguished once and for all. The death of Aroden will now be known to all the inhabitants of Cheliax and the rise of Asmodeus is inevitable.

Next week we begin: Of Princesses and Dragon.

The Fourth Module of Way of the Wicked is underway and the group spent most of the session in a prolonged and deeply personal discussion with the great leader of the Bugbear Horde, Sakkarot Fireaxe. They did manage to get in one combat and are now exploring the Sandbox style gaming milieu of Kintargo (which I've substituted for Daveryn).

It was mostly a role-playing Session of Way of the Wicked this week. The group spent their time in the Sandbox of Kintargo searching the city for local brews, capturing the former ruler, and making a new friend. No battles and no MapTool screen captures. We finished just ready to start a battle so we'll get to that next week.

It was more sandboxing in Kintargo this week as the group found the city's relics, killed a few hill giants, and took out some stalwart holdouts as Way of the Wicked continues on.

We had some connectivity issues because of electrical storms here in St. Louis but that only slowed us down a bit!

We're still in the Sandbox of Kintargo (Daveryn) although we just about wrapped up all rumors and districts. There was a bit of a fight but the group wisely retreated from overwhelming forces.

Next week should see the end of the Sandbox and the resumption of the real plot of Way of the Wicked.

The plot finally returned to Way of the Wicked in this Session as the group finally finished the sandbox of Kintargo. Tiadora explained their next daunting missions and the group set out on their way to convince the dragon. Good luck with that!

We only had one fight at Tandengate Prison and there wasn't really a map so no pictures this week. Next week they deal with the Stormborn King and then it's off to convince Chargammon to attack the Adarium and imperil the lovely Bellinda. The group encountered their first plague victim and the depths of their evil stared them starkly in the face.

We leveled up this week and then went to the Aerie to negotiate with the Stormborn Lord to release the young black dragon Jeratheon. The negotiations didn't go well and there was a bit of a tussle. We take next week off but following that the group heads to the the lair of Chargammon and what appears to be certain death.

Way of the Wicked!

The group traveled to the island of Chargammon the Black and battled a few of his guardians before arriving before the great dragon himself to beg for his aide in attacking the Adarium. The creature reluctantly agreed but only if the brave adventurers performed some small service for him.

Thus completes Session 42 of Way of the Wicked!

The group defeated the great Copper Dragon Eiramanthus in this session and laid waste to his magnificent island home including the library where centuries of accumulated knowledge resided. They then returned to Chargammon who agreed to attack the Agarium one month hence.

It was lots of fighting this week although a bit of role-playing with the gentle and humorous Eiramanthus and his consorts.

And thus comes the end of King Markadian V and the fourth module of Way of the Wicked.

The group assaulted the Adarium and disposed of the King only to find that someone else was far more powerful than they imagined. They switched masters and began the final steps towards their eventual rule of all of Cheliax.

Book Five of Way of the Wicked Begins!

This session was a lot of bookkeeping from the previous session where the group leveled up, learned new spells, and divided up the equipment taken from King Markadian and his cohorts. Eventually we got around to playing the game and there were a couple of fights before we called it a session.

On a side-note I'm rewriting my Talislanta Framework taking much better advantage of JSONs and the Bag of Tricks tricks. So far things are moving rapidly and looking very good. I'm using the Point and Click macros for the first time and it's a bit of copy and paste for me but I'm getting the hang of it. As usual bugs remain!

In this session of Way of the Wicked, the group circumvented the invincible Linnorm and acquired the Phylactory of Cardinal Thrune. They then turned their attention to the Agathium for a final conflict with their once benefactor. They are firmly committed to their new master and irrevocably committed to their path.
