Resizing Maps for MapTool

Post by Mr.Ice »

I've updated the docs at http://rptools.net/doku.php?id=maptooldoc_1_1:maps

with a brief but hopefully helpful description of the process of resizing a map with built-in gridlines so that the grid in MapTool will line up properly.

As discussed in http://forums.rptools.net/viewtopic.php?t=684 there are frequently scanned or otherwise imperfect maps with non-integer square sizes. MapTool's grid is currently only integer sizes, so if your map is 39.5 pixels per square, we're going to be off 1 pixel per 2 squares at best.

So pull the map image into an image manipulation tool and follow the directions to adjust the image size.

Feel free to comment (like I could stop you :)

Looks like a good description of the process to me but then I already know how.

To make it even more blatantly obvious, I would suggest including the formula: NewX = (OldX * DesiredPixSq) / ActualPixSq

...if that makes sense and if I've translated the formula correctly. But you get what I mean. (and add for Y var)

Under that doc area there is no mention for adding Hex maps. I think it would be important to remind people that if you want a hex map you need to add a map using the menu selections and not the quick keys.
Legendsmiths presents:
NOVA6, streamlined universal RPG where action happens at the speed of narrative
Narosia * Sea of Tears, a complete fantasy game powered by the Hero System.

Not sure if I have missed this request ...

A text showing the zoom level you are at. Just on top of the minimap, or below it, or in another corner ...

Whenever I want to know what zoom level I'm at I hit the + key on the keypad and then I know that I am at 100%.

Then you will have to zoom in-out again to where you were Hex Boy :P

Actually, it might be nice if hitting "+" a second time put you back to the zoom level you were at previously! That should be easy to do and easy to use! ;)

Hmmm, interesting idea. I'll put in a tracker for it
