The file was a mttable file created using the excel tool posted in this thread. I followed the instructions, creating the new table in the excel workbook, copying the html text out to the new config text file I made, placing the config file into the zip file, then renaming the zip file back to a mttable file. When I go to import that table into map tools, I get the incompatible table error I posted. I was thinking it was a version issue as the excel table was last updated back in 2011 or 2012 and there have been several versions of maptools since then. I haven't had the time but I was thinking about loading older versions to find if the tables made in the excel tool would work.
